5 Musician Doppelgangers That Need to Collaborate

BY TER STAFF

Doppleganger

There quite a few musicians who look like they be brothers or sisters, and even some that look practically identical. You pretty much can’t watch a Toro y Moi video on YouTube without seeing at least a few people make a Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) related joke in the comment section. So we wondered what it would be like if some of these doppelgangers got in the studio and actually made a song together. Check out our list of the five musician doppelgangers that need to work together, with some that could maybe happen one day and some which definitely aren’t as likely.

Some say music videos are a lost art. With MTV and VH1 airing more reality TV programs than actual music videos, it is no surprise that a lot of artists have abandoned the music video route of promotion. Not all artists fortunately. A lot of big artists know that fans crave visuals, even if they are streaming it from their phone or iPad. And a lot of emerging artists know that dope visuals going viral are a great way to gain exposure and put your name on the map. For our best music videos of 2015 (so far), which include selections from Raury, Childish Gambino, Kanye, WebsterX and more, we have a mix of both. Check out our picks and see who got our number one spot.

Often times, features are the best way to get exposure as an up-and-coming artist, as there is the opportunity to collaborate with some of the biggest names in the industry. No one has utilized features better than Jhene Aiko, propelling her to the Grammys and becoming a go-to collaboration for rappers in just over a year’s time. She has been featured on so many songs in the last couple years that it isn’t even a question of if you have heard of Jhene; it’s a question of how many times. My grandfather once shared with me an old saying that goes… “there are two things in the world that everyone loves, rap album covers and red pandas.” Okay… maybe I made that up. But if you don’t like Kanye West album covers and videos of red pandas playing in the snow, then there is seriously something wrong with you. So in honor of my spirit animal and the creativity of rappers, we have took the liberty of photoshopping red pandas into famous rap album covers. Enjoy some of our best attempts, re-imagining the works of Dr. Dre, Kanye West, Drake, Rae Sremmurd and more!

It seems like every other year, one or two cities has a flock of young, new artists that all blow up simultaneously and take over the game. In 2012 it was New York with A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, etc. and Los Angeles, with the powerhouse that was TDE with releases of Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, Ab-Soul’s Control System, and Schoolboy Q’s Habits & Contradictions. 2013 wasn’t the same, which was just a year full of big hitter releases from Kanye, A$AP Rocky, Drake and J.Cole, to name a few. In 2014, it was Atlanta. With the unstoppable force that was Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan, Rae Sremmurd, Peewee Longway, etc. However, in 2015 you can expect the next city in the cycle to be Chicago. Everyone had a taste of the fresh raw talent from the Windy City in 2013 with the breakout releases of Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap and Vic Mensa’s Innanetape. While both of them have been working on their upcoming, much-anticipated releases, 2014 was a relatively quiet year for Chicago. With many of these artists on the list bubbling beneath the surface, expect many of these artists on this list to breakout and have a huge year.

This year alone we are likely to see releases from music superstars like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Adele, but we are also looking forward to a number of sophomore and debut albums from artists like Frank Ocean, Raury, Vic Mensa and more. The 10 Best Fictional Musicians

BY TER STAFF

Hustle & Flow

Throughout television and cinema we are constantly introduced to singers, bands and rappers whom we desperately wish were real, but usually the best we can hope for is a sequel. Most recently we have Fox and Terrance Howard’s new series Empire, which follows rapper turned label head Lucious Lyon. Next up we will have Donald Glover’s (Childish Gambino) upcoming FX comedy Atlanta, which will follow two cousins who have very different views on how to rise up in the Atlanta rap scene. To help build the anticipation to these two series, and to get nostalgic on past fictional artists, have comprised a list of the best, most swagged out, and absolutely awesome musicians whom we wish were real (and even one who kind of is).
