Half of the Chicago rap duo, Leather Corduroys, who released one of our favorite mixtapes in Season last year, Joey Purp has released his new solo project. Titled, iiiDrops, the SAVEMONEY artist’s tape has features from Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Mick Jenkins, Saba and more. Don’t look past the solo tracks on iiiDrops though, as Purp delivers with stand out tracks like ‘Morning Sex’ and ‘Say You Do’. Upon first listen, everything from the production, features, and of course Purp’s verses are fire.
Chicago’s SAVEMONEY is killing it right now! Chance The Rapper will be the first independent artist to perform on Saturday Night Live. Vic Mensa is preparing for his album release, while still performing all over the country. And now, not long after his Leather Corduroys album Season, the Chicago collective’s, rapper Joey Purp, has released a new solo record. Titled ‘Run It Up’, this is one of Joey’s first solo tracks since his 2012 project, The Purple Tape . Although it’s been years since The Purple Tape, his rapping definitely isn’t rusty. Whether he is rapping as 1/2 of Leather Corduroys or by himself, Purp is one of Chicago’s most talented young MCs right now.

SAVEMONEY has combined forces once again, this time on the Leather Corduroy’s (Joey Purp and Kami de Chukwu) Ikaz Boi and Myth Syzer produced record ‘Have U Eva’. Recruiting Vic Mensa on top of a fire instrumental, you definitely won’t want to sleep on this track. Have U Eva heard a SAVEMONEY track this hot in 2015??
It seems like every other year, one or two cities has a flock of young, new artists that all blow up simultaneously and take over the game. In 2012 it was New York with A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, etc. and Los Angeles, with the powerhouse that was TDE with releases of Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, Ab-Soul’s Control System, and Schoolboy Q’s Habits & Contradictions. 2013 wasn’t the same, which was just a year full of big hitter releases from Kanye, A$AP Rocky, Drake and J.Cole, to name a few. In 2014, it was Atlanta. With the unstoppable force that was Young Thug, Rich Homie Quan, Rae Sremmurd, Peewee Longway, etc. However, in 2015 you can expect the next city in the cycle to be Chicago. Everyone had a taste of the fresh raw talent from the Windy City in 2013 with the breakout releases of Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap and Vic Mensa’s Innanetape. While both of them have been working on their upcoming, much-anticipated releases, 2014 was a relatively quiet year for Chicago. With many of these artists on the list bubbling beneath the surface, expect many of these artists on this list to breakout and have a huge year.
Stream the new project from SAVEMONEY‘s Leather Corduroys (the side-project of Joey Purp and Kami de Chukwu), titled Season. The 14-track Season contains features from Chance the Rapper and Knox Fortune, and has production from Odd Future’s The Internet (among others).
