The Top 30 Albums of 2015

Following an arguably weak year for albums, 2015 has seen a lot of great projects and many unexpected ones as well. While this year we saw the highly anticipated return of Adele, patient fans are still awaiting Frank Ocean’s sophomore album and Kanye West’s Swish. But where Frank and Kanye have left music fans hanging, new comers like Bryson Tiller, Alessia Cara, GoldLink, BOOTS, Halsey and more have put out some great albums to help kick off their relatively young careers. 2015 though was also a great year for some heavyweights, of course we’re referring to artists like Drake, Future, Kendrick Lamar and even pop superstars like One Direction and Justin Bieber. In just one day, November 13th, the music world saw more great releases than it did in a span of months in 2014. Cheers to hoping 2016 delivers as well as 2015 did!

Album Review: The Powers That B | Death Grips

Death Grips - The Powers That B
BY MATT MONROE

The road to The Powers That B has been nothing short of a wild ride. Whether it’d be dropping part 1 of this double album, niggas on the moon and announcing the 2nd part Jenny Death back in June 2014 by surprise, their “breakup” in July (which may not be the case since they’re going on tour and posted this on their Facebook), releasing ‘Inanimate Sensation which led to the discovery of a supposedly fake Twitter account that just so happened to be real, releasing Fashion Week (an instrumental soundtrack that isn’t the album fans have been thirsting for since it’s announcement) in January this year, a rehearsal video, and finally announcing the release date along with a tour announcement to a random girl on Twitter who saw another girl’s skirt with MC Ride’s face on it.

Last night, the Death Grips fanbase was set ablaze after the band’s alleged Twitter account revealed that their long-awaited follow-up to niggas on the moon, Jenny Death (part 2 of 2 of the double album the powers that b), would finally be coming out March 31. Along with the release date announcement, the band also revealed that the album would be up for pre-order on March 17, tour dates would be revealed March 24, and the tickets for the tour would be on sale starting March 27. This move is similar to one that Arcade Fire pulled back in July 2013.

The tweet was soon deleted after, but a screencap (via reddit) was quickly made, which you can see below.

Death Grips Release Mysterious New Rehearsal Footage, Jenny Death Coming Soon?

BY MATT MONROE

Today, Death Grips have released a new video of almost twenty minutes of rehearsal footage. This is the latest move in a string of strange activity from the group since the release of their last album, niggas on the moon. From break-up letters written on napkins, creating fake but not actually fake Twitters, and surprise releasing a soundtrack where all the end letters spell out “JENNYDEATHWHEN”, the group has been seriously messing with it’s audience.

Ever since 2008, vinyl has been seeing a huge revival, with more and more records being bought each year. In fact, vinyl sales this year are projected to go up 8.9 million this year. One of the reasons for this comeback has been Record Store Day, which was started in 2007 by independent record store owners who wanted to celebrate and spread the spotlight on themselves. Since then, the day has grown bigger and bigger and this year, they will be celebrating Black Friday by having exclusive releases for independent record stores. The list of releases this year is down below via The Future Heart.
