You may know him from his feud with Riff Raff, where Jody Highroller accused him of copying his style, you also may know him because many think he looks like a ghetto James Franco. But no matter how you were first introduced to Florida rapper Alien, he just scored a huge name for his upcoming album Hangin’ With Da Dopeboys, named after his lead single of the same name.

According to sources, Kanye West will executively produce Alien’s forthcoming LP. “Seth Rogen told me you have to check out this guy Alien,” said Kanye. “Ever since then, it was Bound 2 happen.” Kanye is also set to provide a couple verses to the album, now joining ‘Freaks and Geeks’ rapper Childish Gambino on the LP. While we don’t normally condone actors who try rapping, Gambino should still be a good fit. You can expect Alien’s highly anticipated project sometime this year, and if you’re headed down to Florida anytime soon, be sure to catch one his performances on your Spring Break.

Watch some behind the seen footage of Alien’s day-to-day life below!

BY TER STAFF

Doppleganger

There quite a few musicians who look like they be brothers or sisters, and even some that look practically identical. You pretty much can’t watch a Toro y Moi video on YouTube without seeing at least a few people make a Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) related joke in the comment section. So we wondered what it would be like if some of these doppelgangers got in the studio and actually made a song together. Check out our list of the five musician doppelgangers that need to work together, with some that could maybe happen one day and some which definitely aren’t as likely.

Some say music videos are a lost art. With MTV and VH1 airing more reality TV programs than actual music videos, it is no surprise that a lot of artists have abandoned the music video route of promotion. Not all artists fortunately. A lot of big artists know that fans crave visuals, even if they are streaming it from their phone or iPad. And a lot of emerging artists know that dope visuals going viral are a great way to gain exposure and put your name on the map. For our best music videos of 2015 (so far), which include selections from Raury, Childish Gambino, Kanye, WebsterX and more, we have a mix of both. In promotion of his new horror film The Lazarus Effect, which hits theaters this Friday, Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) paid a visit to NBC’s The Today Show. After talking about his upcoming film projects and social media, Donald gave some interesting comments on the future of his music career. “I always want to do music. I love music and I’m already putting out projects quietly everywhere. I guess Childish Gambino is a period in my art time, I want to have periods in my life. I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close. I like endings,” said Glover. Is Donald essentially hinting a retirement from music, or maybe just a name change from his Childish Gambino moniker? Only time will tell, but we definitely don’t want to see the music chapter of Glover’s life come to an end.

Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers LP 2” Wins Grammy for Best Rap Album

BY TER STAFF

Grammys

There was a lot of uncertainty as to who would take home the award for the “Best Rap Album” at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards today, especially since the disappointment in the rap community when white rapper Macklemore beat out Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West’s critically acclaimed albums. Would it be the talented veteran Eminem (who has won a number of Grammys in the past)? Would it be Iggy Azalea (who like Macklemore, is white and considered more pop than rap by many)? Or would it be one of the Grammy’s newcomers, like Childish Gambino’s Because the Internet or SchoolBoy Q’s Oxymoron. Well now we know, as this year Eminem’s album Marshall Mathers LP 2 took home the Grammy.

Here at The Early Registration we like to pride ourselves on our music knowledge, to stay polished on our musical expertise our new feature is a little game of musical “6 Degrees”. For those who are unfamiliar, six degrees of separation is the theory that everyone in the world is connected by six or fewer steps, so we are now taking the liberty of connecting musicians by songs and features, who you would never think could be connected. This week our  piece is in honor of the upcoming 57th Annual Grammy Awards, where we will connect the two most opposite nominees for this year’s “Best Rap Performance” category, Christian rapper Lecrae and of course the always controversial Eminem.
