Seven years ago, Bridgeview, IL started trying to move people out of lengthy haunted house lines and into bass and treble filled concert venues in Chicago. Something worked. What started as a generally modest concert idea has transformed into a weekend that should be on any music fan’s radar. Three days that must’ve come into contact with some sort of space-time-continuum allowing for over 75 artists to take the stages. Oh yea and it’s on Halloween weekend: October 30th – November 1st. The only seemingly possibly way to not enjoy the weekend is to not be there. To start picking and choosing the best artists making an appearance would be an exercise in futility so instead, hit the jump for our list of artists we are most excited for. And don’t wait until the fall, get your tickets now while you still can!

Vic Mensa Starts Beef with Travis Scott in New “Heir To The Throne” Freestyle

Drake and Meek Mill may soon be old news for rap beef as Vic Mensa just took serious shots at G.O.O.D. Music‘s Travis Scott with his new ‘Heir To The Throne’ freestyle. Rapping over Biggie’s classic ‘Who Shot Ya?’ record, Mensa raps, “couple rap n*ggas you done thought that we was crew, real life n*ggas was corny, what can I do? Rich boy rappers get the notion that they tough, you a Cheddar Bob you better shooting yourself.” While mimicking Travis Scott’s “straight up” adlib between bars, Mensa is clearly talking about Scott, who (like Vic) is very close with Kanye West and producer Mike Dean.

While we aren’t certain where, how, or why this beef started, members of the KanyeToThe forum traced the beef back to last month, from one of Mensa’s tweets. In the tweet, Mensa is noticeably annoyed by a HNHH article that describes Vic’s unreleased track, ‘3 AM’, as sounding similar to a “Travis Scott song without the autotune.” Vic soon replied asking that they not mention him with “funny style n*ggas.”

It’s possible that something behind the scenes explains Mensa’s disliking of Scott, and there were rumors that a fight between Scott’s team and Vic’s SAVEMONEY crew broke out months ago, but for now it may just be the case that Mensa isn’t a fan of La Flame. Or perhaps the two are competing for studio time with Kanye and Mike Dean? Either way, this doesn’t seem like a necessary beef, and the unnecessary shots are overshadowing the dope bars Vic laid down in the new freestyle. Both Mensa and Scott will be in Chicago this weekend, as Travis is performing at Lollapalooza and Vic is performing a hometown show for an unofficial Lollapalooza Afterparty, so perhaps the two will cross paths…

Listen to Mensa’s shots towards Travis Scott at the 1:40 mark below.

If there are two rappers that are hot right now its Chicago’s Vic Mensa and Atlanta’s Future. That’s why we were very excited when Vic dropped a little freestyle over Future’s Dirty Sprite 2 track, ‘F*ck Up Some Commas’. Next, Vic performed for his hometown crowd at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago and did a live cover of Future’s ‘Codeine Crazy’ record. And now to put the icing on the cake, Vic Mensa has dropped an official version to his Future cover, similarly titled ‘Codeine Crazy (Icarus Story)’. The track is fire!

Interview: Jack Antonoff Talks Vic Mensa, “Only One” Cover, New Album & More

Bonnaroo, more than any other festival of its kind, blends the music and comedy world through its bookings of some of biggest names in both areas. Sometimes the acts are 100% musical, as you don’t hear Billy Joel cracking many jokes in the middle of ‘Piano Man’. Sometimes the acts are nothing but comedy. While Jeff Ross has roasted comedians before, you won’t be hearing him drop any mixtapes in the future (at least I don’t think so). Then finally, sometimes the acts are more in the middle of the two worlds. Childish Gambino’s appearance at Bonnaroo was just about the music, but he still has a successful stand up comedy and television career. Ed Helms is best known for his work on “The Office” and the Hangover series, but he was killing it on the banjo Sunday night. Then you have Jack Antonoff, who isn’t as overtly comical as Ed and Gambino, but who is no stranger to comedy in both his personal and professional life. We met with Jack at Bonnaroo, shortly before he rocked the Tennessee crowd with his indie pop act “Bleachers”, to ask the leading guitarist of “fun.” about the comedy and music worlds, new music, and his forthcoming music festival.
