Mike Posner surprised his musically-inclined fans this morning with the announcement of the Amor Fati Music Academy, a week-long scholarship program where selected young artist are mentored by a number of talented and world-class musicians, songwriters and producers. And where, you ask? In the beautiful mountains of Telluride, Colorado.
The experience is 100% free, and the selected applicants of all ages will be mentored by Mike Posner himself, as well as GRiZ, Adam Friedman, Alex Banayan, Vance Gilbert and more! Needless to say, if you have any musical talent inside you, you will want to apply before the March 30th deadline. The Academy will take place from May 16th through the 23rd, and five musicians will be selected.
Today marked the first day of Chicago’s Freaky Deaky in 2015. Everyone arrived in their best Halloween outfits and prepared themselves for some great music. With its huge expansion this year and it’s new location at Toyota Park, fall’s elite music festival really stepped it up this year! Fans today saw sets from Bassnectar, 2Chainz, Griz, Flying Lotus and many more, and we were there to capture the best moments.
Check out our photos below, of what Day 1 of Freaky Deaky had to offer in 2015, and make sure not to miss tomorrow’s artists!
Inspired by the early hip-hop movement, GRiZ describes his new track ‘Feelin High” as “a tribute to one of my favorite songs, ‘2000 Seasons’ by Reflection Eternal.” With a trumpet solo by the talented Eric Bloom, this is definitely a smooth record. And for GRiZ’s Chicago fans, hopefully this can keep you warmed up until his forthcoming Chicago performance at Freaky Deaky in October, or until he comes to a city near you (check out his tour dates below).
Seven years ago, Bridgeview, IL started trying to move people out of lengthy haunted house lines and into bass and treble filled concert venues in Chicago. Something worked. What started as a generally modest concert idea has transformed into a weekend that should be on any music fan’s radar. Three days that must’ve come into contact with some sort of space-time-continuum allowing for over 75 artists to take the stages. Oh yea and it’s on Halloween weekend: October 30th – November 1st. The only seemingly possibly way to not enjoy the weekend is to not be there. To start picking and choosing the best artists making an appearance would be an exercise in futility so instead, hit the jump for our list of artists we are most excited for. And don’t wait until the fall, get your tickets now while you still can!
Yesterday ended North Coast Music Festival’s 5th Anniversary. With performances by artists such as Bassnectar, Talib Kweli, Kid Cudi, Action Bronson, Riff Raff and many others, the festival closed out with a headlining performance by Snoop Dogg. Check out some of our Sunday photos.
In our inaugural year and summer as your daily source for music, we were given the great opportunity of being invited to cover Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival‘s 5th Anniversary. If you find yourself in Chicago this weekend, The Early Registration has the acts that you should be most excited to see.
