Mike Posner Sings About Police Brutality In “The Voice Of The Unheard”

Earlier today, singer/producer Mike Posner shared what he, as a while male, has learned about being black in America. Growing up in Detroit, making hip-hop music, being close friends with Big Sean, Mike came to the conclusion that despite his background he has “no idea what it’s like to be black in America.” Because of this background, which differs a lot from the African-American artists making songs about race relations and police brutality in America, Mike’s new record ‘The Voice Of The Unheard’, provides a unique perspective of America in 2015.

“Last they night they killed a man and then they hid behind their laws. I noticed that my skin was the wrong color for my cause,” Posner sings in his power new track. Speaking on behalf of those with no voice, Posner’s new folk-inspired sound continues to be more personal than his music to date.

Premiere: Listen to Bloque’s New Track “Chains” ft. Kondey

BY TER STAFF

Bloque - Chains

Earlier this month we premiered Bloque’s record ‘Purple‘, and today we have another premiere from the U.K. artist/producer. This track is titled ‘Chains’ and features Kondey, the newest member of Bloque’s ISFTW team (“I Say Fuck The World”). Like ‘Purple’, the new track is another great example of why U.K. rappers are starting to make a lot of noise in the U.S. and worldwide, and an example of why Bloque is getting some huge co-signs (The Game, Birdman).

‘Chains’, which officially releases tomorrow, at first catches your ears by its production alone. The wavy instrumental (produced by ISFTW’s LB) however is not the highlight of the record. Bloque through his verses, and Kondey on the hook, do their part to match the quality (and then some) of LB’s beat. “This song wasn’t meant for me, I kinda stole it,” Bloque tells us. “LB sent me the track with a verse and hook from Kondey for me to put a verse on it, but as soon as I heard it I wanted it to myself! I didn’t know what I was gonna do with it, but I knew it was gonna be some heat.”

“Chain represent “I did it”, tell me that you love me if you with it.” – Bloque (‘Chains’)

The highlight of the track comes in Bloque’s second verse, which speaks to the whole team of ‘Chains’. “Right now I’ve got a bit of a chain fetish so the song just ended up coming to me. To me chains are like a trophy, rather then use them to stunt on niggas I use mine to show me how far I’ve come, from gang banging once upon a time to making music full time.” If Bloque keeps this momentum, and keeps releasing records like ‘Chains’ and ‘Purple’, then you better bet on the trophies around his neck getting much bigger and much heavier in the near future!

Earlier this month we had great and wild time at the Revelry Music and Arts Festival as The Chainsmokers rocked the University of Wisconsin crowd (check out our photos here). Less than a month later, we have an energetic and retro-influence new track from the electronic duo. The record is titled ‘Good Intentions’ and features songwriter/producer BullySongs. Also be sure to buy it now on iTunes (or check it out here on Spotify)!

Speaking on the record, The Chainsmokers described ‘Good Intentions’ as a track dedicated to all the “people who set out with the best intentions but end up with with the short end of the stick. The wonderful BullySongs from the UK wrote the topline explained to us that this song is all about those times that say to your lady or moms, ‘I am just running to the store, I’ll be back in an hour, and end up back at 5 AM…’ and that idea really resonated with us as trouble makers with hearts of gold.”

Listen to ‘Good Intentions’ and watch our Revelry Festival recap below!

Lil Boosie Recruits J. Cole and Keyshia Cole for “Black Heaven”

BY TER STAFF

Off his forthcoming Touchdown 2 Cause Hell project, Lil Boosie has released his new record ‘Black Heaven’. The track stands out, not only because it shows a more soulful side of Boosie, but also because he recruited not just one, but two, of the Coles (no relation of course). Boosie, J. Cole, and Keyshia Cole together make for an unlikely but amazing collaboration in the new song. Touchdown 2 Cause Hell drops in a week (May 26th).

Tyga has found himself in the tabloids a lot in the past year, not because of his rapping or beef with Drake but because of his relationship with Kylie Jenner. But Tyga doesn’t care what a magazine has to say, and he makes this clear in his new track ‘Hollywood Niggaz’. The record is off Tyga’s forthcoming LP, The Gold Album, and even if you aren’t the biggest Tyga fan, this one is definitely worth checking out. It might surprise you.
