Earlier this month we revealed the news that J. Cole’s next album was coming a lot sooner than anyone expected. Cole’s upcoming project, 2014 Forest Hill Drive (named after Cole’s childhood address) will come next month and today we have the tracklist. It doesn’t appear that the album will have any features, and J. Cole himself executively produced the project.
Last night, Vic Mensa performed to a sold out and hometown crowd at The Metro in Chicago, IL. Vic gave fans a great mix of new music, tracks from his INNANETAPE mixtape and his ‘Down On My Luck’ and ‘Feel That’ singles. The show was kicked off by opening performances from Leather Corduroys and Towkio Shawn and DJ sets by Va$htie, Stefan Ponce (Childish Gambino, Vic Mensa) and DJ Oreo (Chance the Rapper). If that wasn’t enough, Chicago’s own and longtime friend of Vic, Chance the Rapper made a guest performance to perform a new song with Vic.
Ferg’s long awaited debut solo mixtape is finally here. The Gangsta Grillz project contains 19 tracks and is hosted by DJ Drama. Big Sean, SZA, YG, Twista, M.I.A., Crystal Caines, and more are featured on the tape and production comes Big K.R.I.T., Clams Casino, and more!
Frank Ocean has finally come of out hiding. After a two year hiatus, hours ago Frank Ocean shared his new track, ‘Memrise’. Posting the song through his Tumblr, ‘Memrise’ is like nothing we heard on Frank’s debut channel ORANGE. It is definitely good to hear some new music from Frank, as he has kept fans waiting and just days ago we posted a piece on Frank and long hiatuses in music. Stream the new track here!
We weren’t fans of Eminem’s new Shady Records album, ShadyXV, and neither is Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator. Taking to Twitter to share his thoughts, Tyler the Creator sent out a message to Eminem that his music isn’t quite up to par.
Last night Run The Jewels (El-P and Killer Mike) played an amazing set for a packed crowd at the Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit. Rockwell Knuckles, Detroit Che, Dope Head, and ZelooperZ all opened and even Detroit’s own, Danny Brown, made an appearance. We sent one of our photographers, Andrew Baker, there to capture every moment.
Listen to the first released track from the first of a series of projects from The Social Experiment (Chance The Rapper, Donnie Trumpet, Peter Cottontale, and Nate Fox). The first album, Surf, centers around Donnie Trumpet and today we have its track ‘Sunday Candy’. Stream the new uplifting track below!
For our Hate It or Love It series we take a current hot topic in music news that polarizes reasonable minds in the music and entertainment world, and we have one of our writers advocate for one side of the argument and have another one of our writers advocate for the other side (trying our best to always stay fair and balanced). One debatable topic in music has resurfaced with today’s release of Rick Ross’ Hood Billionairealbum, Ross’ second album release in 2014. While artists like Ross do not let long periods pass before releasing new projects, other artists take noticeable hiatuses between releases, but which model is better for the musician?
Timbaland swears by his new artist Tink, and not without reason. Check out Chicago’s own Tink, and her new track ‘Tell The Children’, produced by Timbaland himself.
A few days ago Kirko Bangz dropped his new collaboration with Migos, ‘Drop It On Me’. Today we have the track’s official video. Also be sure to check out Migos’ new Rich Nigga Timeline project, and stay tuned for new music from Kirko.
