Photos: The B96 Pepsi Summer Bash Brings Ariana Grande, Calvin Harris & More to Chicago

Hours ago, pop superstar Ariana Grande stepped off stage at Chicago’s Allstate Arena for another great year of the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash. With some awesome performances from the biggest names in music, the packed crowd in Rosement, IL also saw sets from Meghan Trainor, EDM superstar Calvin Harris, Mike Posner, Charlie Puth, Daya and Bebe Rexha. Whether it was it was one of earlier sets from an emerging name in pop, or one of the night’s headlining sets, everyone from top to bottom delivered for the Windy City.

Kicking things off for the night in her Chicago Cubs jersey was 17-year-old singer, Daya. Although she is new to the game, she already has three big singles in constant rotation. Whether it’s her debut single ‘Hide Away’, her empowering anthem ‘Sit Still, Look Pretty’, or her Chainsmokers collaboration, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’, Daya is killing it, even before her high school graduation. Following Daya’s opening performance was the talented Bebe Rexha. Although she is still making a name for herself as a performer, you know more about the New York native than you think. She has written for a number of big artists in the past, including Eminem and Rihanna’s hit single ‘Monster’, but now if you ask her, the G-Eazy collaborator would tell you she’s focused on “me, myself and I.” Rexha isn’t far removed from her last performance at the Allstate, where she opened for singer Ellie Goulding, and as always she put on a memorable performance.

Next up was Mike Posner, who has been getting spins on B96 years ago, ever since his breakout single, ‘Cooler Than Me’. Now, many years removed from his debut album and college days, the Duke graduate is currently promoting his new album, At Night, Alone. Opening with a couple records off his new sophomore LP, Mike Posner brought some folk-influenced pop to the Chicago crowd. Although Mike kept it intimate with his album version of his newest hit single, ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’, he still found time to get the crowd hype when he took it back for ‘Cooler Than Me’. Fans left wanting more will be able to catch Posner back in the Windy City this August, as he supports Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato on their forthcoming tour.

Following Mike and his guitar was Charlie and his piano, Charlie of course, being singer/songwriter Charlie Puth. Opening with his Meghan Trainor collaboration, ‘Marvin Gaye’, Charlie killed it on the keys. And while his skills on the piano are more than impressive, the night was not about boasting, as Puth had the crowd light up the arena as he dedicated his performance of his #1 record, ‘See You Again’, to all the lives lost in Orlando. Moments later, after Puth said his goodbyes to the Chicago crowd, it was time to rage as Calvin Harris performed his only radio show of 2016. Getting the crowd moving to hit after hit, the highlight of Harris’ performance came as his new Rihanna collaboration, ‘This Is What You Came For’, was blasted throughout the Allstate.

After Calvin Harris and Charlie Puth’s performances, the other half of Puth’s ‘Marvin Gaye’ collaboration, that being Meghan Trainor, stepped on stage. Trainor opened with her most recent single, ‘Me Too’ and closed with her big 2016 record, ‘No’, but the crowd began to erupt as Meghan teased fans by performing a “brand new song that (she) wrote for Chicago”, which was really her smash hit, ‘All About That Bass’.

Soon after Trainor stepped off stage, it was time for the birthday girl, singer Ariana Grande, to bless fans with her headlining performance. Grande, who turned 23 today, gave an extra special performance for Chicago tonight, and it is hard to imagine a better way for her to celebrate her big day. The entire crowd sang Happy Birthday for the ‘Dangerous Woman’ singer as she emerged, and in return she sang a collection of her biggest hits to date, giving the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash an ending to remember.

Photos: Ellie Goulding Brings Her Delirium World Tour to Chicago

Just a few weeks removed from her huge headlining performances at Coachella, Ellie Goulding brought her Delirium World Tour to Chicago’s Allstate Arena in Rosement, IL. What will be Goulding’s second Windy City performance of the summer, as she is scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza’s big 25th year anniversary, the arena was packed with Goulding’s fans who came ready to dance the night away. The ‘Love Me Like You Do’ singer didn’t come alone however, as the English singer/songwriter brought British electronic trio, Years & Years, and the immensely talented, Bebe Rexha.

Kicking off the night as the arena began to fill up was singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha. Perhaps known best now for her G-Eazy collaboration, ‘Me, Myself & I’, a record that Rexha wrote before it found its home on the Bay Area rapper’s most recent LP, Rexha is one of the most underrated songwriters of the past half-decade. Rexha got her big break when Eminem bought her track ‘Monster’, a record that previously had little backing from label heads. Lucky for Rexha, ‘Monster’ became a hit and ever since then the Brooklyn native has continued to prove her doubters wrong. Rexha has had some big festival appearances, has worked with the likes of Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, David Guetta and Nicki Minaj (to name a few), and now of course she is on a huge U.S. tour leg with Ellie Goulding. During her live performances, Rexha converses with the crowd, reminding fans of catalog of records that she has worked on behind the scenes. Don’t be mistaken though, Rexha is much more than just a talented writer and is well on her way to putting “Bebe Rexha the artist” at the forefront of the records that she produces.

Following Rexha’s performance, electronic trio and London natives, Years & Years, hit the stage in Rosemont. Consisting of frontman Olly Alexander, Mikey Goldsworthy (bass guitar) and Emre Turkmen (keys), Years & Years has seen a great amount of success back home, especially with their hit single ‘King’, and that success has been carrying over to the states. Tonight fans saw performances of a number of the band’s records from their 2015 debut, Communion. Although they have been together since 2010, they really took their time in putting together a quality first studio project, and the results showed. Not only did their debut receive great reception from critics across the board, but its live performances tonight were definitely embraced by Ellie’s electropop fans in attendance.

After a brief intermission between sets, it was time for Ellie Goulding to hit the stage. Goulding has consistently raised in popularity in the U.S., and the energy throughout the arena was evidence of just that. After her 2010 debut, Lights, it would have been hard for many Chicago fans to imagine Ellie headlining her own show at the Allstate Arena. Just a few years ago, Goulding performed at Chicago’s Schubas Tavern, an intimate 550-capacity club in the city’s Lakeview neighborhood. In just a couple year’s time, Goulding would return to the city for a daytime set at Lollapalooza in 2013. So for the Delirium singer to headline an arena show that foreshadows a headlining Lolla performance is huge and indicative of her global success in the past few years.

Goulding’s performance tonight was very similar to her headlining set at Coachella this year, a performance which many thousands caught, whether live in Indio or via the festival’s live webcast. Opening with the Intro to her 2015 album, where the tour get its name, and transitioning into the LP’s second track, ‘Aftertaste’, Goulding performed the majority of Delirium, which brought fans singles like ‘Something In The Way You Move’ and ‘Love Me Like You Do’. Ellie Goulding’s performance tonight was much more than just a carbon copy of the album however. Mixing in intimate acoustic performances, a beautiful tribute cover to Prince’s ‘When Doves Cry’, and performing a few fan favorites from her first two albums, Halcyon and Lights, Ellie certainly put on a memorable performances that fans in attendance will definitely want to relive when Ellie returns to Lollapalooza this year on July 31st, as one of the festival’s final performances celebrating a quarter-century of great live music. If you get a chance to catch Goulding at Grant Park this year, jump on the opportunity.

Check out our photos from tonight’s performance below and check out the remaining dates for the Delirium World Tour here.

Photos: Nick Jonas and Bebe Rexha Perform at the House of Blues in Chicago

Last night, singer Nick Jonas performed for a packed crowd at the legendary House of Blues in Chicago, IL. With his special guest, singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha, the two certainly delivered a performance that their Chicago fans will remember for quite some time.

The night started as Rexha hit the stage, and despite being second billing on the tour, Bebe embraced her role of warming the crowd up for Nick Jonas. However, despite her emerging status, you could still hear a large number of her fans singing along in the crowd. Kicking off her career as a songwriter, and getting her first big check when she wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s hit single ‘The Monster’, Bebe performed a great mix of some of her single records with a number of other artists’ songs that Rexha has contributed to in the past few years. The highlight of her set came as she closed with an energetic performance of her big single, ‘I Can’t Stop Drinking About You’.

Soon after Rexha said goodbye to the Chicago crowd, Nick Jonas was ready to greet his Windy City fans. The lights were dim as Nick’s two lead female guitarists gave a killer introduction as Nick emerged. Opening with his record ‘Chains’, the second half of the night couldn’t have started off better. While Nick’s solo career is still relatively new, and with many still associate him with his brothers, it wasn’t long into his set that you realize his solo career has already well surpassed his work with the Jonas Brothers. Nick performed radio hit-after-hit, with a lot of his B-side tracks throughout and a beautiful acoustic performance of ‘A Little Bit Longer’, until he capped the night with an encore performance of ‘Jealous’.

Check out our photos and the official set list below and be sure to check out if Nick and Bebe are coming to a city near you.
