This week Chance the Rapper and Donnie Trumpet (of The Social Experiment) stopped by Power 105.1 for their first ever appearance on “The Breakfast Club” with DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee. Its only right that the two Chi-town grown artists paid a visit to The Breakfast Club as the classic John Hughes film of the same name was filmed just outside of Chicago. Check out the full interview below as Chance talks about his come up, getting a phone call from Jay-Z, Obama and much more. Chance and Donnie also talk about their upcoming album Surf and Chance even gives an indirect shootout to The Early Registration for our coverage on his recent Open Mikeevents (around the 32:30 mark).
Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt has announced his “Not Redy 2 Leave” tour with Vince Staples and Remy Banks. The tour kicks off next month in St. Louis and runs until May. This will definitely not be a tour to miss, as Earl is one of the many reasons why Odd Future is arguably the best collective in rap and Vince Staples made quite a buzz for himself last year with his Hell Can WaitEP (one of our favorite projects of 2014). Check out the dates below!
It looks like Anthony Tiffith, CEO of Tod Dawg Entertainment (TDE), did not take kindly to Big Sean’s subliminal Kendrick Lamar diss on his ‘Me, Myself & I‘ freestyle. In the new freestyle to promote his new album Dark Sky Paradise, Big Sean raps “Ya’ll bragging about so and so, like “Oh, he really it? The new n*gga in rap? Well can he really spit?” Or do he just hide behind his skits like half of these rappers doin’, and ya’ll f*cking go and praise him in this bitch like they the savior of the sh*t (rap),” which may be subliminal shots to Kendrick Lamar, who many praise as the savior of rap. Well if Tiffith saw it like others did, he may have just expressed his opinion on his Twitter. Tiffith tweeted “YALL PLEASE LEAVE DOT (Kendrick) ALONE MAN.HE DONT TAKE NO 1 SERIOUS..HE DONT FUCK WITH NOBODY..PLZ, BECUZ WHEN HE GO,HES GONE & IT WONT BE SUBLIMINAL.” In simpler terms, Kendrick Lamar (as he did in his Big Sean collaboration ‘Control’) calls out rappers directly (not subliminally, perhaps in contrast to Big Sean). Is a Kendrick Lamar response coming soon?
Earlier this month Chicago rapper Towkio released his collaboration with SAVEMONEY affiliate Vic Mensa on his song ‘Involved’, in anticipation of his forthcoming .wav Theory project. Watch as Kanye West (and about 40 of his best friends) take stage at the 2015 Brit Awards to premiere his new and highly anticipated track ‘All Day’. ‘All Day’ was originally announced last summer as the first single for Kanye’s forthcoming 7th studio album. Although a rough draft of the song had since leaked, this is our best taste of the track yet. Watch the flaming hot performance below, even Taylor Swift Lionel Richie were getting turnt.
Listen as Los Angeles-based producer Tommy Brown showcases his rapping skills with Travis Scott and Eric Bellinger on his new track ‘Trippin’ On Me’. The track is dedicated to jealous girlfriends and is a great rapping debut for Brown. Stream ‘Trippin’ On Me’ below.
Last year, Atlanta singer/rapper Raury came out of virtually nowhere and created an instant buzz for himself with his tracks ‘God’s Whisper’ and ‘Cigarette Song’, and his debut project, Indigo Child(one of our Top 30 Albums of 2014). Today we have visuals, titled “PSA”, for his Indigo Child track ‘Seven Suns’ and fans can now buy ‘Seven Suns’ and an EP version of Indigo Child now on iTunes. Check out Raury and his Love Renaissance team’s new powerful video below, easily one of the best videos of the year so far!
In promotion of his new horror film The Lazarus Effect, which hits theaters this Friday, Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) paid a visit to NBC’s The Today Show. After talking about his upcoming film projects and social media, Donald gave some interesting comments on the future of his music career. “I always want to do music. I love music and I’m already putting out projects quietly everywhere. I guess Childish Gambino is a period in my art time, I want to have periods in my life. I feel like Childish Gambino is a period that should come to a close. I like endings,” said Glover. Is Donald essentially hinting a retirement from music, or maybe just a name change from his Childish Gambino moniker? Only time will tell, but we definitely don’t want to see the music chapter of Glover’s life come to an end.
Watch the video for Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise opening track ‘Dark Sky (Skyscrappers)’. Dark Sky Paradise is available now on iTunesand you can check out our album review here. I truly dedicate my life to this music and being a better a person.” Check out the Dylan Knight and Andrew Hines directed video below.
Kanye acceptance of the B.E.T. Honors Visionary Award (which was filmed last month, but aired tonight) was full of laughs, tears, and inspiration. After receiving the award, presented to him from the man who helped introduce Kanye to the world, Dame Dash (founder of Roc-A-Fella Records), Kanye took a jab at his wife’s “broke” ex-boyfriends, talked about his visionary status, and shared a touching story that was told to him by Kim Kardashian, about her late father Rob Kardashian. Watch Kanye’s acceptance of the Visionary Award below.
