These are the highlights of this past week in music! Hopefully you can bump these tracks on your way to work to brighten up your Monday mornings, and to stay up-to-date on today’s music.
This week we have a track from Migos’ forthcoming debut album, a bonus track from Lil Wayne, and a track from TDE’s most underrated artist, Jay Rock!
A little bit of legal trouble isn’t going to stop the Migos from releasing their forthcoming debut album. Y.R.N.: Tha Album is set to release this month (July 31st), and today we have a new single from the album, titled ‘Pipe It Up’. Takeoff kills it on this one, which is produced by Atlanta’s own, Metro Boomin. Stay tuned for the LP and our review to come soon after! But meanwhile, let the new track tide you over.
The wait is finally over as Chance The Rapper and The Social Experiment have released the highly anticipated album, Surf, for free on iTunes. The Donnie Trumpet led project comes in at 16-tracks and has an all-star cast (no exaggeration). As expected, Chance The Rapper is featured on most of the album’s tracks, however Surf also has appearances from Big Sean, J. Cole, Raury, B.O.B., BJ The Chicago Kid, Busta Rhymes, Janelle Monae, Noname Gypsy, Jeremih, Quavo (Migos), Kyle, King Louie, Saba, Erykah Badu, Jesse Boykins III, Saba, D.R.A.M. and Joey Purp. Wow!
‘Shooters’ rappers Migos (Offset, Quavo, Takeoff) were recently denied bond, as a result of their felony weapons charges. The trio is currently being held in Bulloch County Jail (Georgia) after their arrest outside a Georgia Southern University concert. Authorities searched Migos van upon their arrival, where officers found marijuana and multiple firearms. Migos were charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm in a school safety zone and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
We will keep you updated as we have more information.
Things probably got awkward after Drake dissed his OVO Sound artist, Atlanta’s “Tuesday” rapper iLoveMakonnen, on his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Latemixtape. But that isn’t stopping Makonnen, as he just released his new Drink More Water 5 mixtape. This 11-track installment of Makonnen’s Drink More Water series has tracks with Migos, Fredo Santana, Rich The Kid and more. Chicago fans will have two chances to catch some of these tracks live as Makonnen will be traveling to the Windy City on his upcoming “Loudest of the Loud” tour, as well as Pitchfork this summer.
Following the news of Jon Bellion’s new tour, it looks like a second 2015 rap tour will be kicking off in Chicago’s brother to the north (aka Milwaukee), as Migos just announced their headlining “Young Rich Nation” tour. The Atlanta rap trio will be joined by ‘U Guessted It’ rapper OG Maco, and it will kick off at The Rave in Milwaukee on May 1st and will run through the end of the month. Hitting stops in Detroit, New York, Boston, California and more, the ‘Versace’ rappers won’t be stopping in Chicago, but this is still a tour you will not want to miss.
We said it yesterday and we will say it again, no one person is better at their job than Canadian journalist, Nardwuar the Human Serviette. After a Grade-A interview with the always entertaining ‘No Type’ rappers Rae Sremmurd, today we have another new interview from Nardwuar. This time Nardwuar has some gifts and obscure (but amazingly researched) questions for Atlanta’s premiere rap trio, Migos.
Watch the full interview below. Doot Doola Doot Doo…

Police initially received the call at 12:50 a.m. and the victims were hospitalized and luckily survived (all with non-critical injuries). No word yet on suspects for the incident. Definitely be safe when you go to a Migos show!
Check out Migos’ new YRN Lingo & DJ Durel hosted mixtape Migo Lingo. Any charity is good charity, right? And $1,000 is better than nothing? Yes? No? You be the judge. Either way, ‘Versace’ rappers Migos are catching heat on social media for posting a picture of their charitable endeavors. Why all the controversy? Because they are pictured holding a big check with their donation of a pesky one-thousand dollars to Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta. This may be the world record for the smallest amount ever written on a big novelty check. Assuming this came from their pockets (and not the label), that is a total of $333.33 per person. $1,000 may be better than nothing, but it probably didn’t all the showmanship to go with it. The bright side is that now Booker T. Washington High School can buy two Lupe Fiasco verses.
