Is it December yet? Not that we miss the cold weather, but we definitely miss making Year-End Lists! So in anticipation of our future and complete best verses of 2015 list, we had one of our writers make up a list of his 10 favorite verses of 2015 (so far). Remember, it’s just one writer that’s getting our future list started, and spoiler alert there is no Kendrick Lamar on our first draft. Either way, it goes to show how good 2015 has been so far, and with some of the year’s most anticipated albums still to come (i.e. So Help Me God), we can’t even imagine what our list will look like come December!

Feel free to let us know how we should adjust our rap verse power rankings, on Twitter (@TheEarlyReg).

Throwback Thursday Review: Tha Carter III |Lil Wayne

Tha Carter 3
BY EVAN VOGEL ★★★★

“Welcome back hip-hop I saved your life,” raps Lil Wayne on his polarizing album Tha Carter III. Hip-hop is a genre that has been deemed in need of saving ever since its integration into the mainstream. Plenty of artists have declared the genre dead, plenty have uttered words of resuscitation and plenty are its self-proclaimed saviors. The quote cited at the top is from one of these such artists, Lil Wayne. Here is an artist who has been in the game since he was roughly nine or ten years old and since become one of the most recognizable – for better or worse, names in the music industry.

The source of recognition is, of course, his music. But the interpretation of his recognition is far from universally agreed upon. No matter where you are in the world, whether online or in public, there are equally as many people holding Wayne’s pedestal to the heavens and proclaiming him king, as there are refuting his legitimacy even as a musical artist and classifying him as trash. Though not everything he has created is worth writing home about, it very likely isn’t trash. The defining moment in Wayne’s career came in 2008 with the release of his sixth studio album, Tha Carter 3.

Is a Free Lil Wayne Album Coming Tonight?

BY TER STAFF

Is Lil Wayne following the path of Drake and releasing a surprise album on iTunes just one day later, this time for free? A week ago Wayne tweeted, “Free album. Free Weezy season. The Free Weezy Album. #FWA”, suggesting that fans would soon receive a free album (separate from his Sorry 4 The Wait 2 mixtape). And now today, using the same #FWA (Free Weezy Album) hashtag, Wayne tweeted that he “hit sent”. Did he hit send on submitting a free album for fans on iTunes or perhaps somewhere else? Yesterday we speculated that Drake may have released his If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late album to finish his contract with Cash Money before the release of his highly anticipated View From The 6 album. Lil Wayne can’t quite do the same since he re-signed with Cash Money for four solo albums (we doubt he hit send on a few albums today), but he just may have something up his sleeve to get at Cash Money, along with his $51 million dollar lawsuit.

[Update: According to YMCMB preisdent Mack Maine, the album is NOT dropping tonight, despite reports]

Listen to Lil Wayne’s “Sorry 4 The Wait 2” Mixtape

BY TER STAFF

Lil Wayne is very sorry for the wait yet again, as he has given fans another mixtape in anticipation of a forthcoming and delayed album. We don’t know when Tha Carter V is coming, as it was originally scheduled for a 2014 release, but at least we have Sorry 4 The Wait 2 to tide us over. S4TW2 features Weezy rapping over songs like ‘Coco’ and ‘You Guessed It’ and has features from Drake, Christina Millian, 2 Chainz and more. Download the full tape here.

At the close of the video is the release date for S4TW 2, now scheduled for Tuesday, January 20th. Check out the video and the mixtape’s ‘Sh!t Remix’ track below.
