Rapper/singer Future has been putting out quality projects left and right, and after a couple last year in 2014 (Monster and Honest) we now have his new Beast Mode mixtape with Zaytoven for 2015. The 9-track mixtape has features from Young Scooter and Juvenile and is available now for streaming and download.
On Thursdays we review albums that are considered “classic”. This week we will review the classic sophomore LP that gave music fans tracks like ‘Diamonds from Sierra Leone’, ‘Gold Digger’, ‘Touch the Sky’ and more, Kanye West’s Late Registration. Coming off his critically acclaimed and Grammy Award winning debut The College Dropout, Mr. West and the rap world had great expectations for this album, expectations that most artists likely could not live up to. However, instead of falling victim to the sophomore album curse, Kanye delivered and put out another near perfect album. This album had Kanye’s biggest radio hit, in ‘Gold Digger’, and two of the best rap songs ever created, in ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Gone’ (which wasn’t even a single). You can easily make the case that Late Registration is Kanye’s signature project and his discography’s best album.
FKA Twigs couldn’t have had a better 2014, putting out her debut LP1, which was met with instant critical acclaim and was one of our favorite albums of the year. Now you can watch her swing from her own hair, in her self-directed video for her LP1 track ‘Pendulum’.
Yesterday Georgia rapper/singer Raury took to hisTwitter to announce today’s release of his new song ‘Fly’, written after the news that Officer Darren Wilson was not being indicted for the killing of Mike Brown. Describing the song, Raury told fans, “I wrote it instantly the words and music didn’t even feel like mine. I knew that this track belonged to the universe.” Stream the inspirational new track below.
Hours ago, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) performed his STN MTN/Kauai track ‘Sober’ and his Grammy nominated ‘3005’ as the musical guest on ABC‘s “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. Just last week Donald released the fun new video for the track (one of the best music videos of the past couple years) and now we have the song’s first televised performance. Stream the performances below and be sure to catch Gambino at “The Farm” as the rapper will be performing Bonnarrothis year.
Lisbon, Portugal based artist Panda Bear of the experimental band Animal Collective has announced a Spring solo tour. It begins in early March, goes into May, and is in support of his latest LP Panda Bear Meets The Grim Reaper, which dropped on January 9th to much positive critical acclaim thus far. He is also set to play on Jimmy Fallon Wednesday night, which will mark the 3rd time he has played on the show (once solo, another time with Animal Collective).
As opposed to just releasing a conventional lineup poster, Bonnaroo switched things up this year by allowing fans to take a part in the lineup announcement. After calling 1-844-ROO-2015, fans could get the name of an artist on this year’s lineup and make the announcement on social media. And who did they announce? Well let’s just say that “The Farm” will be as good as ever in 2015, with scheduled performances by Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Florence + the Machine, Billy Joel, Mumford and Sons, Deadmau5 and many more scheduled to perform. Check out more of the official lineup below.
To kick off his 2015, Grammy Award winning rapper Macklemore took his raps to the streets. What street though? Sesame Street. Now he can tell you how to thrift and tell you how to get to Sesame Street as well. Check out the video for yourself below as the ‘Same Love’ rapper hops on the track with the Real “O.G.” (Oscar the Grouch), but warning… Macklemore’s raps are trash… no literally, he is actually rapping about garbage.
Check out the new single by Earlly Mac, as he teams up with longtime friend Big Sean. It seems that every time these two work on a track together that the result is fire. This Key Wane produced track is called “Do It Again” and is from Earlly Mac’s forthcoming God Knows EP, set to release January 27th. Stream the hot new track below and check out our recent interview with Big Sean here.
Guster has been around for a while. The band formed in 1991 and went on to release six albums before Evermotion, their newest offering. This album will be released with Ocho Mule Records on January 13, 2015, but it premiered exclusively on Spotify on January 6. Evermotion stands as a respectable addition to Guster’s discography. It is definitely in the style of the band’s previous work, but it also has its own quality to it; it’s more outgoing and present. The band stretched out and explored with this album, unafraid of any sound or combination.Evermotion is a reflective work, a modern addition to a previous era of drug-infused, relaxed music.
