Novacane
When Frank Ocean recorded his track ‘Novacane’, which was done by his own doing as his label was actively pushing his music, he probably wouldn’t have assumed it would lead to a music video and an early taste of commercial success. ‘Novacane’ is perhaps the best record from Ocean’s debut mixtape, and definitely a track that helped speed up the release of his debut album, which would come soon after. Without ‘Novacane’ it is hard to imagine where Frank Ocean would be today. Would his other records alone be enough to spread his name around? Either way, music fans owe a great debt to ‘Novacane’ because without it Frank Ocean may have not received the recognition that he clearly deserves.
