We just got back from Lollapalooza 2015 and our second year at Chicago’s premiere music festival was as great as the first! Although a storm brought a brief evacuation to the Windy City festival, no performances where cancelled and fans saw some great sets from Sam Smith, Paul McCartney, The Weeknd, Metallica, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott (before he was arrested), Logic, Tyler the Creator, Marina and the Diamonds, George Ezra, and many many more.
Drake and Meek Mill may soon be old news for rap beef as Vic Mensa just took serious shots at G.O.O.D. Music‘s Travis Scott with his new ‘Heir To The Throne’ freestyle. Rapping over Biggie’s classic ‘Who Shot Ya?’ record, Mensa raps, “couple rap n*ggas you done thought that we was crew, real life n*ggas was corny, what can I do? Rich boy rappers get the notion that they tough, you a Cheddar Bob you better shooting yourself.” While mimicking Travis Scott’s “straight up” adlib between bars, Mensa is clearly talking about Scott, who (like Vic) is very close with Kanye West and producer Mike Dean.
While we aren’t certain where, how, or why this beef started, members of the KanyeToThe forum traced the beef back to last month, from one of Mensa’s tweets. In the tweet, Mensa is noticeably annoyed by a HNHH article that describes Vic’s unreleased track, ‘3 AM’, as sounding similar to a “Travis Scott song without the autotune.” Vic soon replied asking that they not mention him with “funny style n*ggas.”
It’s possible that something behind the scenes explains Mensa’s disliking of Scott, and there were rumors that a fight between Scott’s team and Vic’s SAVEMONEY crew broke out months ago, but for now it may just be the case that Mensa isn’t a fan of La Flame. Or perhaps the two are competing for studio time with Kanye and Mike Dean? Either way, this doesn’t seem like a necessary beef, and the unnecessary shots are overshadowing the dope bars Vic laid down in the new freestyle. Both Mensa and Scott will be in Chicago this weekend, as Travis is performing at Lollapalooza and Vic is performing a hometown show for an unofficial Lollapalooza Afterparty, so perhaps the two will cross paths…

It’s been an interesting year to be a Travis Scott fan; while La Flame has dropped a handful of slappers featuring top-shelf production and features from notable contemporaries such as Young Thug and Future, the repeated delay of his debut record, Rodeo, has found listeners’ impatience at an all time high. Originally scheduled to hit stores in March, the record was pushed back multiple times before Scott finally confirmed a September 4 release date. While #travishive is rightfully buzzing over the confirmation, average listeners might wonder what makes Rodeo worth the wait. Thus, we’ve compiled a list of five reasons why all hip-hop fans should be chomping at the bit to get their ticket to the rodeo. Hit the jump below to get started!
Here at The Early Registration we like to pride ourselves on our music knowledge. To stay polished on our musical expertise, our new feature is a little game of musical “6 Degrees”. For those who are unfamiliar, six degrees of separation is the theory that everyone in the world is connected by six or fewer steps, so we are now taking the liberty of connecting musicians whom you would never think could be connected, in exactly six steps. This week our 6˚ piece is dedicated to Lollapalooza amazing lineup, which is coming to Chicago in just a couple of weeks. To keep things interesting we challenged ourself to connect one Lollapalooza headliner (Sam Smith) to another Lollapalooza headliner (Paul McCartney). The twist is can we do this using only other artists from Lollapalooza’s lineup this year? Find out below!
In a new interview with Tim Westwood, G.O.O.D. Music and Grand Hustle‘s Travis Scott seemed to confirm that his debut album, Rodeo, is dropping next week. “Your album is about to drop next week, looks like a frickin’ monster fam,” said Westwood. And while Scott did not specifically confirm the date, he didn’t correct Westwood either, and simply replied by saying “Yeah, my album is pretty crazy.” While this isn’t as comforting as seeing an actual date on iTunes, it is good to know that Scott’s debut LP is coming very soon and potentially next week!

Travis Scott released a new track hours ago, which is for “the real fans” and “the real ragers”. While we love the new record, producer Mike WiLL Made-It must not be a “real fan” as he sent a subliminal tweet aimed Scott’s way. “N*ggas dropping songs trying to sound like @iHipsterLee (Rae Sremmurd’s Swae Lee)” tweeted Mike. While Mike WiLL didn’t mention Scott directly, the timing and context of the tweet made things pretty obvious. It will be interesting to see if Scott, who has a unique sound of his own, will respond to the ATL producer.

It’s Days Before Rodeo (literally), as G.O.O.D. Music’s Travis Scott has released the first single to his debut album Rodeo, the follow up to his Days Before Rodeoproject that he released just months ago. This track is titled ‘3500’, and comes in at over 7-minutes long. And Scott shares those 7-minutes as he recruits Atlanta’s own, 2Chainz and Future, for the single. This one is produced by Mike Dean and Metro Boomin’, so if the rappers alone weren’t enough reason to check out the record, the production is fire.
Stream ‘3500’ below and purchase it now on iTunes.
These are the highlights of this past week in music! Hopefully you can bump these tracks on your way to work to brighten up your Monday mornings, and to stay up-to-date on today’s music.
This week we have a new collaboration by Lil Boosie and the Coles (J. and Keyshia), a moving political track from Mike Posner, a Meek Mill and Travis Scott record dedicated to the late rappers Chinx and Lil Snupe, and an upbeat dance track from The Chainsmokers.
Rest In Peace to Chinx, who was tragically shot and killed last Sunday (May 17) in New York City. And to honor the Coke Boys rapper, as well as rapper Lil Snupe (who was killed in 2013), MMG’s Meek Mill recruited G.O.O.D. Music rapper/producer Travis Scott for his ‘Miss My Dawgs’ record. “F*ck ya’ll n*ggas that killed Lil Snupe, and when we run into ya’ll n*ggas we’ll kill ya’ll too,” raps Meek in the new tribute.
Leaked by the Kanye West fan forum YeezyTalk, a new snippet from a Young Thug song has hit the web. The track, titled ‘Freaky’, is produced by Thugger’s good friend and “Rodeo Tour” partner, G.O.O.D. Music’s Travis Scott. It’s also rumored to feature Kanye West, so stay tuned as we get more information on this amazing collaboration.
