Summerfest got its fix of nostalgic rap and hip-hop as T.I. performed at the festival’s U.S. Cellular stage for a headlining performance. Perhaps the biggest draw of the night amongst the ground stage acts, fans came out in large numbers to see performances from some of their favorite Tip records like “Whatever You Like”, “Bring Em Out”, “Swagga Like Us” and many more.

Amtrak and WGCIdelivered last night, as they brought some of the biggest names in rap music to the 2016 Summer Jam. Despite a last minute cancellation from ‘My Wap’ rapper Fetty Wap, the Summer Jam brought a number memorable performances, from Desiigner, Young Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Migos, Plies, Famous Dex, Lil Durk and more, that the Windy City will not soon forget. With Plies for the ladies, Desiigner for the GOOD Music fans, T.I. for the old school rap heads, Migos and 2 Chainz for the crowd’s ATL fix, Jeezy for the marquee and Lil Durk, Katy Got Bandz and Famous Dex for their hometown, the Summer Jam had something and more for everyone in attendance.
While no single act stole the show, one of the night’s best moments came when 2 Chainz reached the end of his set time. Instead of playing by the rules and saying his goodbyes to Chicago, Tity Boi kicked down the LCD screen ticker that read 0:00, and performed until he felt that his set was actually over and dropped the mic before he stepped off stage. 2 Chainz raised the energy levels in the United Center, which set the tone for Jeezy’s headlining performance where he gave one hell of an introduction to Lil Durk, who joined the ‘Put On’ rapper on stage and helped cap off the night. This was definitely a Summer Jam for the ages!

Chicago’s 107.5 WGCI is bring the Summer Jam back to the Windy City and it’s all going down Friday, June 17th at the United Center. In what will surely be Chicago’s biggest rap concert of the summer, the Summer Jam will feature some memorable performances from Fetty Wap, T.I., Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Migos, Desiigner, Lil Durk, Plies and Kent Jones. While a concert from just one or two of these artists would be a can’t miss event, with such a stacked lineup, there is no better place to be than the house that Michael Jordan built in just a couple weeks.

“It’s the King b*tch” those are the word one typically expects to hear from OG southern rapper and self declared King Of The South, T.I. . He is one of those rappers who has managed to stay relevant and keep his game at an elevated level while also holding the thrown of King essentially unchallenged. T.I. has had some slips, most notably No Mercy, but it was the late entry Trouble Man: Heavy is the head in 2012 that showed TIP hadn’t left, he just took a short break. Looking to follow the success of his previous effort T.I. is dropping Paperwork in the 4th quarter of 2014 but also leaving a free one time stream up via Itunes Radio. However much like No Mercy, Paperwork is burdened by an over-saturation of guest verses and similarly to Trouble Man it is stretched thin trying to cover various styles in rap. With a blazing start, mediocre middle and solid closing tracks the saving grace of the album is T.I. himself so rarely lets down with weak verses.
In the past week, a ton of musicians have stepped up to show their support in the fight against ALS. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord that causes pain and loss for too many families across the nation. We took the liberty of compiling a list of some of our favorite musicians showing their support.
