4. Kendrick Lamar – “Alright”
Set in the streets of Oakland, CA, Kendrick Lamar’s black and white visuals for his To Pimp a Butterfly record ‘Alright’ contains a number of chilling images to show the battle that the inner city fights against the police everyday. While such a civil battle is sad on so many levels, which is portrayed accurately by the record’s visuals, the video is still as uplifting as the track itself. “We gon’ be alright” repeats in the chorus as it has become an embraced anthem by protesters throughout the United States. The video bounces between happy and sad and just when you think the video is turning to have a bad ending, with Kendrick falling to his death, King Kunta cracks a smile as the video cuts to black.
