6. The Weeknd – “The Hills”
When we said Travis Scott’s ‘Piss On Your Grave’ was lit, we weren’t being literally, rather giving reference to the popular saying and ad-lib from Scott’s ‘Antidote’ record. When we say The Weeknd’s video for ‘The Hills’ is lit though, we mean it literally! As the video begins we see Abel and two women, bloodied, crawling out of his car that had been in an accident at dawn on a suburban street. While he walks away, leaving the angered women to fend for themselves, the vehicle burst in flames, creating some amazing visuals in the process. Abel then makes his way into a house, slowly walking up the stairs (still in pain from his accident), as he gets upstairs he enters a room full of the two women he left, and a character who we later learn to be the devil, as ‘The Hills’ is just the first music video in the trilogy that The Weekend would later release (‘Can’t Feel My Face’ & ‘Tell Your Friends’).
