Charlie Puth Brings the Voicenotes Tour with Hailee Steinfeld to Chicago

BY TER STAFF

In support of his sophomore studio album of the same name, Charlie Puth brought his headlining Voicenotes Tour to the Chicago’s lakeside Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island. With an opening set from the diversely talented, Hailee Steinfeld, Puth kept the packed crowd singing and dancing throughout the night.

Up first, Hailee Steinfeld kicked off her performance with her debut 2015 single, ‘Love Myself’. The empowering track perfectly represents Steinfeld’s growing catalog, making her a big role in the new wave of female artists in modern pop music. With songs like ‘Love Myself’ and ‘Most Girls’, Steinfeld delivers a catchy pop sound with a message her audience is happy to get behind.

And if you love her music, than you may love her acting as well, as Steinfeld is perhaps even more accomplished through her acting than she is with her impressive and growing career in music. Steinfeld announced her love for Chicago last night, and we can definitely expect her to return in the near future.

With the stage set, it was time for the man of the night to take stage. Setting the tone with Michael Jackson’s ‘PYT’, Puth opened his set with his new album’s opening track, ‘The Way I Am’. And throughout the night, the singer/songwriter showed us the way he is from start to finish, putting his quirky personality and infectious smile on display.

A self-proclaimed nerd, Charlie Puth will be the first to tell you how unlikely his rise to pop stardom is, but pop music couldn’t be luckier to have him. While your average pop star rises to the top of the charts through the help of a talented team of writers, Puth is a rare breed, writing his own music which makes his tracks especially personal.

Puth continued on with his set with tracks like ‘Marvin Gaye’, ‘How Long’, his new track ‘Empty Cups’ and ‘LA Girls’, a record which certainly made the Chicago girls jealous. After reading a couple suggestive fan signs in the audience, with some of Puth’s older fans wishing that Charlie would replace the City of Angels with the Windy City, Puth performed his 2018 track.

Charlie told stories about tracks between performances and even showed off his skills on the key-tar. Then to end things off on a strong (voice)note, Puth finished his set with his singles ‘One Call Away’, ‘Attention’ and his Voicenotes track ‘Boy’, an ode for some of the older women in the audience.

From head to toe, Charlie Puth is one of the biggest multi-dimensional artists in pop music today. His writing is second to none, and his skills on piano are as impressive as his voice. If the Voicenotes Tour hasn’t already rolled through your local market, be sure to get your tickets for one of the remaining shows at Charlie Puth’s official website.

Photos: B96 Pepsi Summer Bash Brings Jason Derulo, Liam Payne, Hailee Steinfeld, Niall Horan & More to Chicago

Last night Kygo closed out the party at the annual B96 Pepsi Summer Bash at a packed Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, just minutes outside of Chicago.

With showstopping performances from some of the biggest names in music, the Windy City crowd was treated to sets from pop stars like Hailee Stenfeld, Camila Cabello and Noah Cyrus, electronic superstars Zedd and Kygo, the always entertaining Jason Derulo, half of One Direction and the newly solo Niall Horan and Liam Payne, and more! From start to finish, the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash absolutely delivered for yet another yet.

Up first for the night, electronic trio Cheat Codes kicked off the party in Rosemont. The energetic trio made themselves a very tough act to follow for the rest of the night. As the Los Angeles natives performed their Demi Lovato collaboration, ‘No Promises’, the B96 listeners knew that last night would be a show full of some of pop radio’s biggest tracks.

Next up, singer Dua Lipa greeted the Chicago crowd. Fresh off her big performance at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Dua Lipa performed her biggest tracks from the past year, including ‘Blow Your Mind’ and her Sean Paul collab, ‘No Lie’.’

With little time between sets to keep the momentum going, Noah Cyrus came to the stage. The little sister of Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus showed the Summer Bash that she is her own artist with performances from her debut LP, NC-17, including her single ‘Make Me (Cry)’ and a cover of The Weeknd’s hit single, ‘I Feel It Coming’. She may not come with as much controversy as her big sis, but she brings just as much personality to the table.

Following Cyrus’ set, it was time for the lovely and diversely talented singer/actress, Hailee Steinfeld, to return for another B96 performance. You either know her for her movies like “The Edge of Seventeen” and “True Grit” or her pop radio favorites like ‘Love Myself’ and ‘Starting’, or all of the above. The highlight of Steinfeld’s set though, came with the performance of her new and empowering anthem for women everywhere, ‘Most Girl’.

For the next three acts, the night was dedicated to the newly solo artists who used to lead some of the biggest pop music groups, with One Direction’s Liam Payne and Niall Horan, and the Fifth Harmony stand-out, Camila Cabello. All of the three were contestants of the X-Factor, before being formed into the groups that rose them into the stars that they are today. However, all are now enjoying their new solo careers, writing music that speaks to themselves as individuals. From Liam’s ‘Strip That Down’ to Niall’s ‘Slow Hands’ and of course Camila’s ‘Crying In The Club’, these performances were some of the best of the entire night.

Next, it was time for some more dancing as EDM superstar Zedd came to the stage. Known in part for some of his big pop collabs, like ‘Starving’ with fellow Summer Bash artist Hailee Steinfeld and ‘Stay’ with Alessia Cara, Zedd knew how to keep the party going in Chicago.

Following Zedd’s memorable set, it was time for one of the night’s big headliners, Jason Derulo. Whether it was his impressive dancing or the sheer volume of hits that the singer has to perform, there was much to enjoy from Derulo’s set. Perhaps the most underrated performer in pop music today, Jason Derulo has been a staple in pop music for the past decade, and with recent hits like ‘Swalla’ and ‘Get Ugly’, Derulo isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Last but not least, another huge DJ blessed the Summer Bash stage, this time Norwegian house artist, Kygo. One of the biggest highlights of the entire night, the crowd went crazy as Kygo helped close out the Summer Bash with his massive Selena Gomez collaboration, ‘It Ain’t Me’.

From some of the world’s best DJs to the biggest names in pop music, new and old, the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash continued to kick off the summer by bringing a plethora of talent and entertainment to the Windy City.

Singer/actress Hailee Steinfeld has released her official music video for her new addictive single, ‘Most Girls’. So don’t tell Hailee that she isn’t like “most girls” because, as she sings in her new empowering track, “most girls are smart and strong and beautiful.”

Last night iHeartRadio and 103.5 KISS FM brought the Jingle Ball Tour to Chicago’s Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. With the sold-out Windy City crowd watching, some of the biggest names in music brought a memorable night of live music to the Allstate. Artists like Ariana Grande, the Backstreet Boys, Ellie Goulding, Daya and Hailee Steinfeld (just to name a few) were there to give the packed arena a night that they will not soon forget.

First up for the night was the lovely and diversely talented, Hailee Steinfeld, who kicked things off with her track ‘You’re Such A’. Also performing tracks like her DNCE collaboration ‘Rock Bottom’, ‘Love Myself’ and ‘Starving’, which went platinum early this week, Steinfeld put on a great opening set for her Chicago fans, dubbing 2016 one of the best years of her entire life. And with a platinum single and a critical acclaimed film in theaters now, with “The Edge of Seventeen”, can you blame her?

Next up, emerging singer Daya greeted the Jingle Ball crowd, calling her recent Jingle Ball performances as “such a dream”. Daya performed songs like ‘Sit Still, Look Pretty’, ‘Words’, ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ and of course the track that changed her life, ‘Hide Away’.

After Daya thanked the sold-out arena, it was time for Lukas Graham to hit the stage. Perhaps one of the top performances of the entire night, Lukas Graham exceeded the expectations of many. Like so many artists on the Jingle Ball lineup, Lukas Graham also have a lot to celebrate. Fresh of their three Grammy nominations, jumping from a spring Chicago performance of about 700 people to performing for a sold-out arena in Rosemont, and getting the crowd engaged with their tracks ‘You’re Not There’, ‘Mama Says’, ‘Strip No More’, ‘Drunk In The Morning’ and their big single ‘7 Years’, it’s a great time to be in Lukas Graham.

After fans finished singing along to ‘7 Years’, One Direction’s Niall Horan blessed the stage with a performance of his new solo track, ‘This Town’. Horan called Chicago his favorite city in the United States, a place where he would spend a lot of time while touring. Unfortunately for Niall though, he told the fans “it makes me upset that I only have one song to perform.” Don’t worry Niall, we are sure you’ll be back very soon with a debut solo album to perform.

Next on the Jingle Ball stage was Tove Lo, who not only played her biggest singles like ‘Habit (Stay High)’ and ‘Talking Body’, but also gave fans some awesome performances from her new LP, Lady Wood, including ‘Cool Girl’ and ‘True Disaster’.

And then it was time for probably the biggest performance of the night. That’s right, the Backstreet Boys are back, and they made a huge stop in Chicago before their forthcoming Las Vegas residency. Whether you were a mom who brought your daughter and her best friends or a ’90s baby (but birth certificate or just at heart), you probably lost your voice or hearing from all the screams. Opening with their mega-hit ‘Everybody’, which was the perfect opening track to set the tone for the rest of their performance, and later ending with their equally huge, ‘Larger Than Life’, BSB gave us years of hits and still was able to leave us wanting more. If you missed out on the Jingle Ball or if you were there and just a half hour of the Backstreet Boys left you feeling “incomplete”, well make your way to Planet Hollywood in Vegas from March to June and see what the Backstreet Boys “got going on”.

Met with the very difficult task of following one of the best selling groups of all-time, Ellie Goulding met the challenge head on and surely delivered. Goulding opened with her big hit single, ‘On My Mind’, and whether or not the track was inspired by Ed Sheeran’s displeasure of her rumored fling with fellow Jingle Ball artist Niall Horan, Ellie killed it. Goulding also performed tracks like ‘Anything Could Happen’, ‘Love Me Like You Do’ and busted out the guitar for her hit single ‘Burn’. Ellie hasn’t been around as long as BSB, but still her entire set was hit after hit. Ellie Goulding live will never disappoint.

While the Backstreet Boys were certainly the highlight for the moms in the audience, the night’s headliner was all about the daughters, as Ariana Grande closed out the Chicago stop on the Jingle Ball Tour. Ariana of course got things going with her huge 2016 single, ‘Side To Side’, and although she wasn’t joined by Nicki Minaj for the performance, Ariana didn’t need it. Grande kept the fans screaming and ended the night on a high note, and who can hit those high notes better than Ari? From top to bottom, everyone delivered for Chicago last night.
