Yesterday Donda’s House and The Chicago Track hosted rapper Big Sean and his Sean Anderson Foundation for their “Behind The Mic” Q&A series. For those who may not know, Donda’s House is Kanye West’s nonprofit organization, named in honor of his late mother, which devotes its time and efforts to supporting young aspiring artists in Chicago. From hosting the community portion of this year’s inaugural AAHH! Fest to hosting this Q&A with Sean, and for the great amount of small events that the organization hosts throughout the city all year,Kanye and the Donda’s House team are continuing Dr. Donda West’s love for education.
Last night Bay Area rapper G-Eazy made his second Chicago stop for his From The Bay To The Universe tour at the sold-out Concord Music Hall. G-Eazy performed a number of tracks from his latest These Things Happen album, as well as a selection from his earlier projects. Also to show his love for the city, G-Eazy brought out Chicago’s own Chance the Rapper, Rockie Fresh and Vic Mensa to help rock the sold-out crowd. In a recent interview with Billboard, rapper Kendrick Lamar gave a number of comments on policy brutality and race. Specifically, Kendrick explained “I wish somebody would look in our neighborhood knowing that it’s already a situation, mentally, where it’s f—ked up. What happened to (Michael Brown) should’ve never happened. Never. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a rally, don’t start from looting, it starts from within.” While many may agree with King Kendrick, rapper Azealia Banks did not, engaging in a number of tweets which sound off against Kendrick’s comments and calls his remarks “the dumbest sh*t I’ve ever heard a black man say.” Check out Kendrick’s full interview here, where he also pays respect to Iggy Azalea (who had a recent feud with Banks), and check out Azealia Banks’ full comments on her Twitter below.
Earlier this week Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) tweeted and soon deleted a link to a mysterious countdown that was set for 2:00 a.m. on January 9th (Central time). The countdown link was all-black, sleek and simply showed the counter in the bottom right of the page with no information as what it was for. While we could only speculate what it is was for, the wait is now over.

In 2011, rappers Das Racist came out of nowhere and instantly made a name for themselves in the New York rap scene. Although the group has since parted ways, their music lives on and now Das Racist founder Heems is pursuing a solo career. To kick off his solo work, Heems will be releasing his debut LP titled Eat, Pray, Thug, which is set for a March 10th release.

Ever since the overnight success of the new OVO Sound artist and his track ‘Tuesday’ (thanks to the help of Drake of course), iLoveMakonnen is one of the biggest up-and-coming names in rap and hip-hop. ‘Super Clean’ is produced by Makonnen himself, with the help of producer Phantom Power. Earlier today the lineup was revealed for New York’s 2015 Governors Ball Music Festival. The fest will be located in Randall’s Island Park in New York City and will take place June 5-7. This year’s lineup continues to impress as the festival will feature performances from Drake, The Black Keys, Lana Del Rey (our 2014 Woman of the Year), Deadmau5, Florence and the Machine, St. Vincent, Tame Impala, Flying Lotus, Little Dragon, Logic and many more. Spoiler alert, at least as shown in the trailer, Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) gets killed by Olivia Wilde in the upcoming horror film “The Lazarus Effect”. The silver lining though is she comes back from the dead to do it, so technically a black guy doesn’t die first in this horror film… technically.
