Tonight, rapper Big K.R.I.T. paid a visit to young Chicago artists as part of Donda House‘s “Behind The Mic” series. With a surprise visit from Chicago’s own, Lupe Fiasco, K.R.I.T. gave some great advice to the up and coming performers. K.R.I.T. will also stick around the Windy City tomorrow, as he headlines Donda House’s spring graduation. Donda’s House is a non-profit organization that honors the educational legacy of Kanye West’s late mother, Dr. Donda West. The organization holds a number of great programs and opportunities for Chicago’s youth, providing a safe and creative environment for Chicago’s aspiring artists.
Donda House’s “Behind the Mic” series is one of our favorite community programs by the non-profit, which has invited Big Sean, No-ID and more to give unique and valuable advice to the community’s brightest. Along with their community showcase at the Common Ground Foundation’s “AAHH! Fest”, Chicago artists have the opportunity to continue the city’s legacy of being one of the world’s best music hubs.

Recently stricken by city budget constraints, the Chicago community organization Donda’s House has received a record donation from its co-founder, Kanye West. Donating a portion of his proceeds from his recent Louis Vuitton Foundation concert series, Kanye gave over $133,000 to the organization named after his late mother. This marks the highest donation since Donda’s House‘s inception. Speaking on the donation, Donnie Smith (Executive Director of Donda’s House) told press, “Kanye’s generosity is greatly appreciated and will improve our capacity with new staff as we deliver the high-quality arts programming that our participants deserve.”
For those who don’t know Donda’s House is a non-profit organization created in honor of Kanye West’s late mother, Dr. Donda West. The mission of Donda’s House is to honor the educational legacy of Dr. West by implementing arts, health/wellness, and literature experiences that transform youth. In addition to their daily operations and weekly events, Donda’s House has put on a number of big events in the past year specifically, including their “Behind the Mic” event with Big Sean and their community showcase at this year’s AAHH! Fest. Now because of Illinois budget cuts, Donda’s House and its mission has been threatened, and they are asking for your help to make sure that all of Chicago’s youth has access to arts and a safe space at Donda’s House.
Yesterday Donda’s House and The Chicago Track hosted rapper Big Sean and his Sean Anderson Foundation for their “Behind The Mic” Q&A series. For those who may not know, Donda’s House is Kanye West’s nonprofit organization, named in honor of his late mother, which devotes its time and efforts to supporting young aspiring artists in Chicago. From hosting the community portion of this year’s inaugural AAHH! Fest to hosting this Q&A with Sean, and for the great amount of small events that the organization hosts throughout the city all year,Kanye and the Donda’s House team are continuing Dr. Donda West’s love for education.
