Photos: An Evening with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis in Milwaukee, WI

Macklemore

Earlier tonight Macklemore and Ryan Lewis brought their 2016 tour to The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. Closing the U.S. leg of their “An Evening with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis” tour, Macklemore rocked the sold-out Milwaukee crowd with a memorable performance. While we can’t speak for the previous tour dates, you wouldn’t have guessed that it has been two years since the ‘Thrift Shop’ rapper has been on tour. If you went into tonight thinking that it would just be a rapper going over some of his instrumentals with a DJ in the background, you couldn’t have been more wrong!

The night kicked off as rapper Xperience (XP) hit the stage to warm up the crowd. Although XP was not billed on the lineup, the emerging rapper has been touring with Macklemore and company throughout the tour, introducing himself to city after city. And tonight’s crowd received a great introduction to the rapper, and although Milwaukee wasn’t rapping along word-for-word with XP this time around, he certainly set the great tone for the night and picked himself up some new Midwest fans.

Macklemore

However of course, the man (or men in this case) of the hour was Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. For this tour, the majority of the songs performed were off Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ critically acclaimed 2012 album The Heist, but the Seattle rapper definitely made time to sprinkle in some new music. The crowd’s energy level were certainly at a climix during Macklemore’s performance of his 2015 single ‘Downtown’, which is expected on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ forthcoming LP This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, however ‘Growing Up’ and ‘White Privilege II’ were noticeably left out from the setlist. Although the latter may be because it’s a more political, less up-beat, and nine-minute song. However given the song’s recent popularity, and because it’s a great record, many fans would have loved to see a live performance.

In total, the performance was full of energy from start to finish. Contrasting from your average rap concert, Macklemore and company put a lot of production into the show, that looks like it was designed from an arena tour instead. All throughout the night Macklemore paid tribute to his Milwaukee fans, dubbing the crowd as the tour’s “best crowd yet”, and while this may be something he tells every crowd, because Milwaukee was the first show to completely sell out on the tour, he just may have meant it this time.

Macklemore

“An Evening with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis” isn’t your average show, in the same ways that Macklemore isn’t your average rapper and that Ryan Lewis isn’t your average producer. It’s almost impossible to pick one or two moments that stood out from tonight because the performance left fans consistently entertained throughout the night.

Future really must take no days off, because even though his collaboration album with Drake, What a Time to be Alive, released just months ago, Future is already releasing his next album tomorrow (February 6th, 2016). Titled EVOL, Future shared the tracklist for his forthcoming 10-track project to fans earlier today. And this one certainly isn’t a collaborative album, as all songs but one, feature Future and no one else. Who is the lone guest feature on the album though? Who better than The Weeknd? This definitely will be one of the most played and talked about albums in the new year.

Check out the official tracklist for EVOL below.

Alessia Cara and Logic Team Up for “Here” Remix

Alessia Cara’s catchy record ‘Here’ is not only the Canadian singer’s smash #1 single, but it is also one of the best records released last year, a song that speaks to a different crowd than most Top 40 hits, but yet is surprisingly relatable to many. One person that can relate to ‘Here’ is Logic, Cara’s Def Jam labelmate and a rapper who hasn’t been afraid to admit that he likes to stay home and kick it instead of poppin’ bottles in the club. So it’s only right that Logic hopped on ‘Here’ for an awesome Def Jam remix of the hit record, and it totally works!

Listen to Alessia Cara and Logic’s ‘Here’ remix below and check out our photos of Alessia’s recent Chicago performance here (no pun intended).

Rapper Daye Jack Releases Powerful Video for “Hands Up” with Killer Mike

Yesterday rapper Daye Jack celebrated Black History Month with the release of his music video, for his powerful Black Lives Matter inspired record, ‘Hands Up’. Joined by Run The Jewel’s Killer Mike, the visuals for Jack’s record (which was originally released months ago) are as powerful and moving as the track itself. The music video is directed by David Gallardo and incorporates real footage and images from the new era of the civil rights movement in America. Already this is an early pick for one of our favorite videos of the new year.

Watch Daye Jack’s video for ‘Hands Up’ below and download the record now on iTunes.

Adele Speaks Out on Donald Trump Using Her Music for His Rallies

BY TER STAFF

It’s about time that Republican politicians and candidates stick to a select (almost non-existent) number of conservative musicians when making selections for their rally music. Whether it’s Bruce Springsteen shutting down republications for playing his patriot hits, or whether it’s the Dropkick Murphys telling Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker “we literally hate you”, time and time again Republicans look silly for using music from (often liberal) big name musicians without their permission. This time it is Donald Trump under fire, as the Republican candidate for President used a couple of Adele records (‘Rolling in the Deep’ and ‘Skyfall’), and now Adele is speaking out.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, a spokesperson for the ‘Here’ single released an official statement noting “Adele has not given permission for her music to be used” by Trump, or for any political campaign. So while Adele isn’t going to be joining the stage with Vampire Weekend and Bernie Sanders any time soon, she definitely hasn’t endorsed Donald Trump. And trust us, she definitely doesn’t need his free publicity either.
