Frank Ocean Releases New Song, Covers Aaliyah’s “At Your Best”

BY TER STAFF

New music from Frank Ocean is a rarity since his debut album channel ORANGE, but when he does bless fans with new tracks, he takes to his Tumblr and virtually out of nowhere (as he did in November of 2014 with his track ‘Memrise‘). Tonight was no exception as Frank Ocean surprised everyone with new music, this time a beautiful cover of Aaliyah’s ‘At Your Best’. This one showcases Frank’s range more than anything we have heard from him before. Let’s hope that this leads to a lot more from Frank, maybe his collaboration with Lil B, as his sophomore album (release date TBD) is one of the most anticipated projects of 2015 (assuming it comes out this year). Stream ‘At Your Best (You Are Love)’ below.

Young Thug – “Friend of Scotty”

Listen to Young Thug’s new David “Dun Deal” Cunningham produced track ‘Friend of Scotty’. Dun Deal, who has worked with Migos (‘Hannah Montana’) and Young Thug in the past, definitely gave Thugger another hit beat on this one. The rhymes are a little silly at times throughout the track, “no homo but my blunt looks like a d*ck”, but the song is definitely worth checking out. Stream it now, below.

Album Review: Beast Mode | Future

Beast Mode
BY DAN GARCIA

Late last year, Future released his 9th mixtape in five years, with his Halloween inspired Monster (the followup to his second studio album Honest). Less than three months after Monster comes Future’s next project, titled Beast Mode and produced entirely by Atlanta producer Xavier “Zaytoven” Dotson. While Future brings the same emotion to Beast Mode as with previous projects, this mixtape (in large part due Zaytoven’s production) has a different feel and theme than Monster, although Future does not abandon his sound that makes his singing very appealing and catchy. Although Future and the ‘Versace’ producer have worked together since 2011, a full collaborative project was almost inevitable to combine the talents of Atlanta’s hottest rapper and one of the city’s best producers. Beast Mode isn’t Future’s best project to date, but is yet another example that Atlanta is easily in the conversation for being the rap hub of the world right now.

Throwback Thursday Review: Late Registration | Kanye West

Late Registration
BY DAN GARCIA ★★★★★

On Thursdays we review albums that are considered “classic”. This week we will review the classic sophomore LP that gave music fans tracks like ‘Diamonds from Sierra Leone’, ‘Gold Digger’, ‘Touch the Sky’ and more, Kanye West’s Late Registration. Coming off his critically acclaimed and Grammy Award winning debut The College Dropout, Mr. West and the rap world had great expectations for this album, expectations that most artists likely could not live up to. However, instead of falling victim to the sophomore album curse, Kanye delivered and put out another near perfect album. This album had Kanye’s biggest radio hit, in ‘Gold Digger’, and two of the best rap songs ever created, in ‘Diamonds’ and ‘Gone’ (which wasn’t even a single). You can easily make the case that Late Registration is Kanye’s signature project and his discography’s best album.
