Listen as Chicago’s Kembe X recruits Detroit’s Danny Brown for his new track, ‘Hereditary (2 Bitches)’. The record is in anticipated of Kembe X’s forthcoming Talk Back mixtape and is produced by OPI Tayler. Danny Brown definitely delivers with his guest verse, so don’t sleep on this one.
“Although its no more, those 7 letters are forever,” tweet Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator tonight. Is Odd Future (“OFWKTA”), which consists of Tyler the Creator, Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Taco and many more, really done? As suggested by Tyler’s tweet, it must be. If so though, what exactly does that mean? Odd Future isn’t like One Direction, as in it’s not a group/bank that always and only travels together. It’s a collective of artists, each with their own visions and specific styles. Tyler the Creator does his thing. Frank Ocean does his thing. Earl Sweatshirt does his thing. And the rest of Odd Future does their thing as well. So while we don’t exactly know what the end of OFWGKTA means, this certainly wasn’t a good tweet to read!
Even though they have a stack of shows worldwide this summer, Run The Jewels (Killer Mike and El-P) have already announced their 2015 fall tour. Hitting stops in Texas, Colorado, Detroit and more, the rap duo’s fall tour will kick off on September 29th in Tucson, AZ. Until then, we will definitely catch their set a Bonnaroo this year, and you can check out our photos of RTJ’s Weekend 1 Coachella performance.
Check out Run The Jewels’ fall tour dates and it’s awesome promo poster below (as well as their previously announced shows).
Is there a new Frank Ocean project about to drop? Earlier today, singer Frank Ocean posted a mysterious playlist/set, titled states, on his Soundcloud. There is only one problem though, the playlist is empty. At best this means that he is on the verge of blessing fans with a surprise project, for free on Soundcloud. At worst this means that Frank is playing a cruel joke on fans who have been more than thirsty for a new project, ever since his critically acclaimed channel ORANGE album.
While we wait on states (maybe forever), watch Frank perform ‘Pyramids’ on Saturday Night Live below.
After a week with a number of big name music leaks, today we have a new track from R&B’s The Weeknd. This one is titled ‘Girls Born In The 90s’, and it is of course dedicated to all the lovely women born from 1990 to 1999. The smooth new track is definitely worth a listen! Also be sure to check out our photos from The Weeknd’s Coachella performance this year.
Gay, bi, or straight (even in the rap world), it’s all about the music. Frank Ocean’s music can make you catch feelings about a girl that you didn’t even know you liked. Rappers can wear dresses and they can be as straight as they come. But of course, especially after suspicion flare, fans tend to be curious and wonder what their favorite artists are up to when the doors are closed.
Young Thug is one such rapper who is constantly surrounded by gay rumors. And to be fair, a lot of it is his own doing. He admittedly wears little girl dresses (not that all or many gay men do that), and he calls his friends “bae”, “babe” and “hubby”. Despite the signs, that seem almost obviously homosexual to many, Young Thug has insisted he is straight and even said there is “no fruity sh*t going on.” Also, no one loves the ladies quite like Thugger, and he does have a fiance.
But a recent 2011 tweet has surfaced, which makes it hard to imagine that Young Thug is not bi or homosexual. Years ago, well before Rich Gang Cash Money rapper was famous and years before the success of his breakout 2014 hit ‘Stoner’, he replied to “@LilTony_Mdc” on Twitter with “god dam u sexy kuz.” While only Thugger could explain what the context was, the proof may be in the pudding on this one.
Gay or straight, no one makes a hook like Thugger. And if the rapper is gay and decides to come out publically, that will certainly be a great day for hip-hop. Check out the tweet below, which has not yet been deleted (and a screenshot of the tweet, in case it does get deleted).
Future’s ‘F*ck Up Some Commas’ remix is here, and it’s stacked! With guest appearances from Big Sean and Rick Ross, Sean Don definitely stills the track with his verse (are you surprised?). And if you want to catch a ‘Commas’ performance live, check out Drake’s “Jungle Tour” with Future in a city near you. Also be sure to check our photos of Big Sean’s recent Milwaukee concert here.
In a private email to fans (and we are definitely a fan), Mike Posner shared a surprise 4-track EP, titled The Truth. The project, which features a few tracks from his forthcoming and much anticipated sophomore release, contains ‘I Took a Pill in Ibiza’, ‘Buried in Detroit’, ‘Not That Simple’ and ‘Be As You Are’. Mike added:
“PS. I want to be very clear: THESE ARE FOUR SONGS SELECTED FROM THE UPCOMING ALBUM. When I put the album out, I don’t want to hear “we’ve already heard all these soooooongs” #whinyvoice hahahahaha. love you.”
Since this release was intended for fans only, do yourself a favor and officially subscribe to his email list at MikePosner.com, so you find out about new music from the source himself!
In a members only Q&A for the Third Man Records‘ Vault this past weekend, Jack White talked a number of topics that might be worrisome for fans. Despite recently finishing a huge world tour, in promotion of his latest LP Lazaretto, White contemplated if it was all worth it.
“I’d say half the show I play, I’d rather not play, festivals for example. But I have to make the best of it and try to get inspired.”
White also added, “only seated theaters for acoustic shows for the rest of my days.” The other half of The White Strips, Meg White, was also discussed in the Q&A. “(Meg) doesn’t answer her phone… That time is gone.” Then, when asked about the chances of a reunion if they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, White replied, “Doubt it, and doubt it.”
Kind of a depressing fans only Q&A, but hopefully it is just a funk and fans will hear a lot more of Jack White in the future(assuming they put their cell phones away at his concerts).
These are the highlights of this past week in music! Hopefully you can bump these tracks on your way to work to brighten up your Monday mornings, and to stay up-to-date on today’s music.
This week we have a new collaboration by Lil Boosie and the Coles (J. and Keyshia), a moving political track from Mike Posner, a Meek Mill and Travis Scott record dedicated to the late rappers Chinx and Lil Snupe, and an upbeat dance track from The Chainsmokers.
