Even if you do not know the name, you certainly know Martin Garrix. In fact, you are probably one of his over 300,000,000 views on his video for his song ‘Animals’ on YouTube, uploaded just a year ago. At only 18-years-old Martin Garrix is tearing up the festival scene and quickly rising to be one of the world’s top DJ/producers, and just last week I was able to sit down with him for an interview at Lollapalooza.

While on assignment for Pigeons and Planes, I had the great opportunity to meet with Martin. Not only was he the nicest guy, it was a blessing to be around someone who has seen such a rise in their career at such a young age. Meeting just a few hours before he blew the crowd away at the Perry’s stage at Lollapalooza, we talked music festivals and some of his craziest fan stories.

The first thing I asked him, since we were at Lollapalooza, is if he went the route of Jane’s Addiction star Perry Farrell and made his own music festival (a Martinpalooza if you will) who would he book as his first headliner. With no hesitation he said Calvin Harris, who was also performing at Lollapalooza that night. He also told me about his favorite festival experience as a fan, seeing Disclosure perform at Coachella. Finally before we concluded he shared a wild fan story, of a girl who bit his neck during a fan meet-and-greet and how he had to try to explain the mark to people afterwards. Unfortunately us guys can’t blame such marks on the curling iron like women can!

Do yourself a favor and go buy his Gold Skies EP on iTunes now!
