The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour came down the chimney of the legendary Madison Square Garden last night, giving New York music fans an enchanting evening, sparkling with the festive spirit and a roster of performances that ranged from soul-stirring to outright electrifying. The history venue was transformed into a holiday wonderland, providing the perfect backdrop for an array of artists who brought their A-game to the stage in Big Apple.
Giving fans a bit of rap to the evening, Doechii’s performance, though shorter in duration, was a powerhouse display of her rising talent. The “What It Is” artist’s unique style and commanding stage presence hinted at a bright future in the music industry, leaving fans eager for more.
New York’s own, Melanie Martinez, gave fans a fantastical journey. Her performance, which drew largely from her latest album “Portals,” was a theatrical masterpiece. Performing in character, dressed as a pink-skinned, green-haired and 4-eyed creature, delves into themes of life, death, and rebirth for her concept album. Her stage presence was both haunting and mesmerizing, leaving the audience captivated by her artistic vision.
MSG got a bit nostalgic as Big Time Rush also took the stage, serving as the resident boyband for the evening. Their performances of “Windows Down” and “Boyfriend” had fans reliving their earlier days and Logan Henderson’s backflip was not just a physical feat but a symbolic leap, energizing the packed crowd. And as a special treat, the band also delivered a rare performance of their track “Beautiful Christmas”.
Pentatonix’s segment was a harmonious interlude, filling the Garden with the spirit of the holidays. Their renditions of classic holiday tunes were a reminder of their unmatched vocal talent and their ability to create a warm, communal atmosphere. Pentatonix’s music should be in your rotation all year round, but it’s hard to find a better group to perform your favorite Christmas songs.
The evening’s special performance by Cher, which was just announced this past week, was the icing on the cake. Her timeless voice and presence added a legendary touch, bridging generations and musical styles, serving as a holiday gift from iHeartRadio to its fans who were in attendance last night as she performed her brand new Christmas record, “DJ Play a Christmas Song”.
Sabrina Carpenter’s performance was a testament to her evolving artistry. Her ability to weave intricate narratives through her songs resonated with the audience, making her set a memorable part of the evening, as the singer was decked out in a festive all white outfit. The “Nonsense” singer’s star has already been on the rise for years, but now that she’s supporting Taylor Swift’s massive Eras Tour, it won’t be long until she’s a household name outside the pop world.
In a night where music and holiday magic intertwined, each artist added their unique hue to this kaleidoscopic event. The evening began with some of music’s most exciting emerging artists. The soulful melodies of David Kushner, particularly with the performance of his hit single “Daylight,” was a heartwarming start. The crowd sang along, their voices melding in harmony, setting a tone of communal anticipation for the night ahead.

Bringing Tennessee to NYC, Jelly Roll’s set was a blend of raw country emotion and nostalgia. Performing country music mega hits from the past year like “Save Me” and “Need A Favor,” he connected with the audience on a deeply personal level, but his medley of classic hip-hop songs was a highlight, showcasing his versatility and respect for musical heritage. And as a special Jingle Ball surprise, Jelly Roll also brought out special guest Jessie Murph to treat fans to a performance of their new collab, “Wild Ones”.
As one of the veteran acts for the night, OneRepublic reminded everyone why they are mainstays in the music world. Ryan Tedder’s songwriting prowess shone through in hits like “Apologize” and “Counting Stars,” with the crowd echoing every lyric. Their set was a journey through a catalog of songs that have become soundtracks to many lives and it’s no surprise that Tedder is a go-to when your favorite artist hits a writing block. In fact, one of the highlights of the set came as Tedder performed an intimate performance on the piano of Beyonce’s “Halo”, a song he wrote for the Queen Bee over a decade ago.
As one of the biggest names on the lineup, SZA’s performance was a display of sheer vocal and emotional power. Her performance of “Kill Bill” was particularly striking, showcasing her ability to blend vulnerability with strength. Her set was a mix of popular hits and her profound collaborations, each song a testament to her artistic growth.
Olivia Rodrigo, the night’s standout, delivered a performance that was both intimate and explosive. Her live renditions from her new LP “Guts” hinted at the evolution of her artistry. Her performance of “drivers license” and “good 4 u” had the audience in raptures, singing along to every word. Her presence on stage was a mix of raw emotion and polished artistry, solidifying her place as a pop sensation. Rodrigo gave fans a small glimpse of what they can expect on her massive 2024 arena tour, but even in a half-hour she was able to blow fans away and give everyone in attendance their money’s worth.
The iHeartRadio Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of music, talent, and the holiday season. Each performance was a gift in itself, leaving the audience with memories that would sparkle long after the last note was played. From rising stars to established legends, the night was a testament to the power of music to bring people together and create magic.
