Milwaukee’s Riverside Theater was flooded with talent as R&B singer/songwriter and everyone’s favorite, John Legend, brought his headlining Darkness and Light Tour to a packed crowd of his biggest fans. The talent was spread throughout the lineup though, as DMV native, Christopher Gallant (or “Gallant”), got the night started in the best way possible.

Just before he is set to deliver an anticipated performance at Bonnaroo, Gallant had Milwaukee in awe with performances of some of his best tracks. Performing songs from his 2014 self-released EP, Zebra, a project with attained the singer his core fan base, as well as tracks from his 2016 debut album, Ology, Gallant’s set was a true showcase of his voice of songwriting.

The Grammy-nominated Warner Brothers artist certainly picked up a number of new fans in Milwaukee tonight, with highlights from his opening set, which included performances of ‘Cave Me In’, ‘Talking To Myself’ and a memorable finale with his biggest single from his growing and emerging career, ‘Weight In Gold’. As Gallant continues to tour the world, get huge co-signs from artists like Quincy Jones and Seal, and give fans goosebumps with his impressive vocals, the alternative R&B singer has a promising future ahead of himself.

Next up, it was time for John Legend to greet his audience. Named after his fifth studio album, which released just months ago, Legend’s Darkness and Light Tour is everything you love from the Columbia singer. From his ballads on the piano, his beautiful lyrics, to his breathtaking vocals, it’s no surprise that John Legend is an artist that is often imitated but never duplicated.

Legend kicked things off with one of his new LP’s singles, ‘I Know Better’, a lovely gospel-infused record where Legend stays humble and reminds himself that, “Legend is just a name”. But if you asked anyone in attendance tonight, John Legend lives up to his name and has for years. Next, Legend performed his album’s Chance The Rapper collaboration ‘Penthouse Floor’, an artist who calls home, the Windy City located just 90 miles south of tonight’s show.

John Legend continued his set with his 2013 track ‘Tonight’, his single ‘Love Me Now’, and ‘Made To Love’. And whether Legend was impressing the audience with songs from Darkness and Light, some soulful covers, or some of his biggest hits throughout the past decade and change, the audience stayed engaged and Legend continued to blow the crowd away.

While there were too many highlights of his set to count, a few personal favorites included Legend’s performance of ‘Ordinary People’ and his encore performances of his mega-hits, ‘Glory’ and ‘All Of Me’. From Gallant’s opening set to Legend’s memorable encore, the night was one that Milwaukee will not soon forget.

Check out our photos from tonight’s performance below and be sure to get your tickets to another date on Legend and Gallant’s U.S. tour at John Legend’s official website.

Donald Glover Explains His Forthcoming Childish Gambino Retirement

BY TER STAFF

Photo by Dan Garcia/The Early Registration

Donald Glover broke hearts everywhere as he ended his headlining set at New York’s Governors Ball with the announcement that his next Childish Gambino album will be his last. “I’ll see you for the last (Childish) Gambino album,” Glover told the crowd.

And today, we have a little more context for Gambino’s forthcoming retirement. During an event to promote his FX series, “Atlanta”, Glover told the Huffington Post:

“There’s nothing worse than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?’ You know, I like when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”

If you ask us though, given the fact that his music is constantly evolving and getting better by each album, that’s enough reason to “come back”. Will Glover continue to make music under a new moniker, or without a stage name? Only time will tell. Perhaps Gambino will join so many rapper before him, and change his mind about his retirement day. But then again, how many other rappers have successful acting, writing and comedy careers that also need attention?

Listen to Childish Gambino’s addictive single ‘Redbone’ below.

Donald Glover Announces That His Next “Childish Gambino” Album Will Be The Last

While fans at New York’s Governors Ball last night were treated to a memorable set and Childish Gambino’s only scheduled performance of 2017, fans also received some sad news as Donald Glover told the crowd that his next Childish Gambino album would be the last.

“I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.” – Glover told fans.

And while this is sad news no matter what way you spin it, don’t lose total hope. Although many think this is the end of Glover’s musical endeavors, since his acting career and FX series have been more than successful as of late, Glover said it will be the “last (Childish) Gambino album”, not his last album altogether.

Since Glover has been talking about ending his Childish Gambino moniker for awhile now, and because he doesn’t refer to himself in third person, his next album almost certainly will not be his last, just the last as Childish Gambino. So don’t be too disappointed!

Check out Gambino’s announcement at Governors Ball below.

Check Out the First Photos from Enrique Iglesias & Pitbull’s Co-Headlining Tour

BY TER STAFF

Photo by Dan Garcia/The Early Registration

With a plethora of Grammys, record sales and accolades between the two, Spanish singer/songwriter Enrique Iglesias and Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull, joined forces again and kicked off their big summer tour in Chicago tonight. With 35 shows in total for the tour’s U.S. leg, expecting nearly half a million people in attendance, this tour is not one to sleep on.

And if Enrique and Pitbull sound like a familiar pairing, it’s because the two have been traveling the world together ever since 2012, when Enrique brought Pitbull along on his Euphoria Tour. The two again teamed up a couple years later on Iglesias’ SEX & LOVE Tour, where the tour saw 500,000 people in attendance for the U.S. dates with Pitbull, and reached over 1.7 million fans globally. So it was only right that Enrique and Mr. 305 hit the road in 2017 for another string of dates across the country.

Since they last paired, Pitbull continues to be a pop radio favorite in the states and abroad, while Enrique continues to make the charts, with his new hit single ‘Subeme La Radio’ staying in Spotify’s Top 30 since its release, reaching over 350 million views on YouTube and going platinum in multiple countries.

Needless to say, Chicago was in for a treat tonight. Kicking things off first was an opening performance from Latin American pop band, CNCO. Another boy band who owes a great debt to Simon Cowell, as the group won his singing competition show, “La Banda”, CNCO isn’t the latin One Direction, rather they have an identity of their own and a stage presence that had the girls in the audience on their feet. With a set that included their tracks ‘Tan fácil’ and ‘Quisiera’, the performance got the night moving in the right direction.

Next up, it was time for the first headliner to hit the stage and greet his Chicago fans. Miami’s own, Pitbull kicked off the summer tour with hit after hit, and a lot of energy fresh out the gate. Complemented by hit singles and features, as well as some lovely backup dancers, laser lights and pyrotechnics, Pitbull treated the packed Allstate Arena with performances of tracks like ‘Fireball’, ‘Hotel Room Service’ and ‘Hey Baby’. It wasn’t just about the hits either, as Pitbull also took time to perform some B-sides from his new tenth studio album, Climate Change. If Pitbull is one thing, he is an entertainer, and that was evident tonight.

Following Mr. 305’s show-stopping performance, it was time for Enrique Iglesias to close out night one of the 35-date tour. With a massive setlist that expanded across his entire ten album discography and more, ever since the release of his self-titled debut in 1995, Enrique put on a show that Chicago will not soon forget and that 34 more stops in the U.S. will soon experience.

While Enrique’s set consisted of several tracks from his newest album, Sex and Love, the Windy City crowd went most wild for performances of Iglesias’ newest tracks from the past year, including ‘Subeme La Radio’ and ‘Duele El Corazon’, as well as some Enrique classics like ‘Escape’ and his 2001 hit single ‘Hero’. Another highlight of the night included the tour’s stage setup, which not only consisted of a main stage, but additionally a catwalk and third mini-stage by the soundboard, so that Iglesias could give a more intimate performance to fans all across the arena.

No matter where you were seated tonight, you saw two big headlining performances for the price of one, and the first night of what will certainly be one of the hottest summer tours around.

Future Brings the Nobody Safe Tour to Chicago

BY TER STAFF

Photo by Dan Garcia/The Early Registration

Nobody was safe in Chicago last night, as some of the biggest names in rap today ravaged through the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, IL, just minutes outside of the Windy City. Bringing the ATL to Chicago, with headlining performances from Future and the Migos, fans at the Nobody Safe Tour last night also saw supporting sets from artists like A$AP Ferg, Tory Lanez and Zoey Dollaz, an impressive lineup from top to bottom.

Kicking things off for the Illinois crowd was Freebandz‘s own Zoey Dollaz, who just last month dropped his new 12-track mixtape which shares a name with the tour, and has features from Future, PnB Rock and more. “The inspiration for the mixtape is just something we got from this upcoming tour,” Dollaz told XXL. Dollaz opening set included performances of his tracks ‘Blow A Check’ and Bad Tings’.

Next up was the A$AP Mob’s A$AP Ferg, who stepped in big time for the tour after rapper Kodak Black was removed from the tour due to his recent legal troubles. And while Kodak Black is certainly one of the more entertaining rappers in 2017, the addition of A$AP Ferg was praised by fans everywhere. Ferg continued to warm up the crowd with a 20-minute set full of songs like ‘Shabba’, ‘Hella Hoes’ and ‘Work’.

Keeping things on a high note, Tory Lanez blessed the crowd with one of his always entertaining performances. Going back-and-forth between his rap songs for the fellas in the crowd and his R&B jams for the ladies of Chicago, and even taking time to dive into the crowd, as they lifted him up to the sky, Tory Lanez killed it and made his case for headlining the Amphitheatre one day.

With energy levels at a high, the Migos were met with screams throughout the crowd as the Atlanta trio began their 75-minute set, performing a number of tracks from their new LP, Culture, as well as some of their fan favorites from throughout the past half-decade. While Quavo, Offset and Takeoff had the audience dabbing and dancing throughout their performance, highlights of their set included their performances of ‘Look At My Dab’ and ‘Bad and Boujee’. Many may argue that it’s just a matter of time before Quavo, who has given solo features to a number of big hits for various artists this past year, goes solo, but don’t expect those predictions to come to life as Migos, as an entire collective, has an unmatched stage presence that leaves audiences wanting more and last night was no exception.

Then, just as you’d think the night couldn’t get anymore wild, Future Hendrix greeted his Chicago fans to close out the night. And when you’re headlining a night supported by the Migos, as he did a few weeks ago at Rolling Loud and now on the Nobody Safe Tour, not only is that high praise but it’s a tough challenge to follow one of the biggest rap groups of the past decade. And last night Future was certainly up for the challenge, and the Dirty Sprite rapper succeeded and then some.

Future kept the crowd engaged with a catalog of his number one hits, B-sides and fan favorites, and when you have two albums from 2017 alone, and 100+ tracks from his mixtapes and albums since 2010, you have plenty of tracks to choose from. The night wouldn’t have been complete though without some must-hear songs, including ‘Too Much Sauce’, ‘Move That Dope’, ‘Mask Off’ and ‘Draco’, just to name a few. And if performances from Zoey Dollaz, A$AP Ferg, Tory Lanez, Migos and 20-tracks from Future weren’t enough, Future returned to the stage after his set for a memorable encore performance. Fans got their money’s worth early in the night, but mega acts in rap like Migos and Future made the night one that Tinley Park won’t forget anytime soon.
