Wednesday night marked Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt’s second visit to Milwaukee in the past year alone. And while fans happy to welcome the “Loyal To Me” singer back to The Back Room @ Colectivo, one of the city’s most intimate venues, if Nesbitt continues to see the success from her new sophomore album, The Sun Will Come Up, the Seasons Will Change, then she will certainly be stepping on much bigger stages for tours to come.
Nesbitt’s fan base has started to grow exponentially in the states since her single “Loyal To Me” hit Top 40 radio stations throughout the U.S. The multi-talented singer, writer and model has been performing for years, first getting her start on YouTube, but although she’s been grinding for quite some time, she stands as one of the most exciting emerging acts in pop today.
The night began with two supporting performances to get the mood going. Singer/songwriters SophieRose and Plested, who both have written song for other artists, were two great picks for the tour’s headliner who clearly prides herself on her writing. Rose performed songs like “Famous” and “Best Friend”, while Britain’s Plested performed some of his fan favorites like “Worthy of You”, “Ribcage”, and his original version of “Remind Me to Forget” (made famous by Kygo). In his new jacket that he bought down the road at Urban Outfitters, Plested even performed a bonus song with “Back Up Plan”, a track requested by a fan in the audience.

Last but not least, it was time for Nina Nesbitt to greet her Milwaukee fans. Opening with a shortened version of her new album’s single “Somebody Special”, Nesbitt kicked off what would definitely be a memorable performance. The singer then continued with her tracks “Sacred” and her emotional record, “The Moments I’m Missing”. The latter, which contains lyrics inspired by Nesbitt’s ex (or multiple if you will), Ed Sheeran, is evidence of how personal Nesbitt gets with her music. Although Nina Nesbitt has made a name for her self with the music alone, instead of who she dates several years ago, both Nesbitt and Sheeran (who penned his tracks Nina and Photograph after Nesbitt) give fans a window into their lives, heartbreak and all.
Throughout the night, no song was left behind as Nesbitt performed The Sun Will Come Up… in its entirely. From some of the album’s more fun and upbeat records like “Love Letter” to slower tracks like “Is It Really Me You’re Missing” (originally wrote for Rihanna), the set list focused on just one album but still had a diverse variety that any great concert should have.

Of the several highlights in the evening, two stand outs came near the end of the night as Nesbitt performed “The Best You Had”, a track which received a lot of attention when Taylor Swift included the song on her Favorite Songs playlist on Apple Music, a cover of The Weeknd’s “Often” and of course her grande finale with an entertaining performance of her album’s most popular single, “Loyal To Me”.
Whether its famous ex-boyfriends or her debut 2014 album Peroxide, Nesbitt draws from the past for her music but the only direction she’s moving is forward.
