Hours after the big announcement of their forthcoming mini-album, Johannesburg, British indie rockers Mumford & Sons brought their huge world tour to Madison, Wisconsin’s Alliant Energy Center. With approximately 10,000 fans in attendance, Mumford & Sons brought American singer/songwriter Blake Mills to help warm up the Midwest crowd and contribute to what would be a memorable night. The rockers mixed the old with the new tonight, performing a number of their fan favorites & B-sides with a number of new records, which we can now expect to hear on their forthcoming mini-album.

Kicking off the night was singer Blake Mills. Mills is certainly not new to music, as the singer has been consistently releasing music since 2010, however he certainly picked up a number of new fans tonight in Madison. A California native, Mills is perhaps best known for his record ‘Hey Lover’ or his work with Simon Dawes, a band Mills co-founded with his high-school friend Taylor Goldsmith. Notably Mills also stands out for his production skills, which grabbed him a “Producer of the Year” nomination for his work on Alabama Shakes’ 2015 album Sound & Color. Tonight though Mills’ set showcased his skills as a solo artist and performer. While Mills’ music, new and old, was new to many fans in Wisconsin tonight, his records certainly resonated well with the sold-out crowd.

Soon after Mills’ opening performance, it was time for Mumford & Sons to hit the stage. Despite their indie status, Marcus Mumford and company have a wide appeal, which is more than evident from their ability to sell out arena after arena on their current tour. While the guys joined forces in 2007, Mumford & Sons quickly rose to their elite status after the release of their 2012 LP, Babeltheir second studio album and the follow up to their 2009 debut Sign No More, which brought fans singles like ‘Little Lion Man’ and ‘Winter Winds’.

Mumford & Sons opened tonight’s performance with their record ‘Snake Eyes’, a track from Mumford’s 2015 album, Wilder Minds, a project which debuted a new sound for the band which took their folk sound and traded their acoustic instruments for electric ones. Throughout the night the band jumped from album to album, performing an excellent mix from their three studio albums. Next, Mumford & Sons gave fans some new music with their record ‘Believe’. Throughout the night they made time to give fans a first listen as to what’s to come from the band, records that will likely find home on Mumford & Sons’ upcoming project, Johannesburg.

Highlights of the night were all over. Whether it’s a more upbeat performance or a slower record that turned the arena into an intimate performance, the crowd loved every moment. Of course though when fans had to wait for Mumford’s encore performance of their mega-hit ‘I Will Wait’, the energy levels were at an all-time high. Mumford & Sons have the ability to take intimate performances that you’d expect to hear at your local pub, and bring them to some of the biggest venues and music festivals throughout the world. Their live performances are certainly like none other.

Check out our photos from tonight’s performance below and check out the remaining dates from Mumford & Sons’ current tour here.

Photos: Gary Clark Jr. Brings The Story of Sonny Boy Slim Tour to Chicago

BY DAN GARCIA

Gary Clark Jr. holds the fate of a whole genre in his hands alone, and I mean that in the most literal way possible. When Clark Jr. holds his guitar, show after show, he is keeping blues rock alive in 2016. With huge co-signs from the Foo Fighters, Eric Clapton, John Mayer and critics across the board, Buddy Guy even called Gary Clark Jr. the savior of blues. I first had the opportunity to hear Clark Jr. live, performing in support of Outkast’s huge reunion tour in 2014. Since then I’ve seen him perform at a couple festivals throughout the country and I always leave impressed.

Tonight Gary Clark Jr. traveled to the Windy City in support of his second studio LP, The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, with his headlining tour of the same name. Performing for a sold-out crowd at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre, fans of all different ages and go-to genres got to see one of the world’s best guitarist live in action. Today marked April Fools’ Day but tonight’s performances at The Riv were certainly no joke. There was no better place to be in Chicago tonight than Gary Clark Jr.’s sold-out show.

To warm up the crowd tonight was another one of Austin, Texas’ most talented artists, country music singer Carson McHone. McHone received a lot of local attention after her self-titled EP in 2013, and since then she has shared the stage with Lydia Loveless, Charlie Mars, David Ramirez, and even toured in support of Shakey Graves last summer. Tonight though, McHone shared the stage with her fellow Austin native and performed a number of records off her latest studio album, Goodluck Man. While you wouldn’t expect an alternative country singer to warm up a blues rock crowd, that’s just what she did tonight. Despite minor feedback issues on the production side and some outside fan chatter from the bar area, the performance was excellent in every way. McHone has a lovable and calm stage presence that fans can’t help but enjoy. Sometimes a guitar is still a guitar, and despite the differences in McHone and Gary Clark Jr.’s music, the two both know how to work the guitar and write some great records.

Soon after McHone stepped off stage, it was time for the man of the night. The lights went low and the crowd erupted in anticipation of the night’s headlining performance. Gary Clark Jr. kicked off his set with his track, ‘Bright Lights’ from his 2012 debut, Blak and Blu, an LP which scored the Texas guitarist his first two Grammy nominations. ‘Bright Lights’ may not be one of Clark Jr.’s biggest records, but the B-side is definitely one of his best to see live.

Throughout the night, Gary Clark Jr. performed the majority of records from The Story of Sonny Boy Slim, a few awesome covers, and a lengthy encore. With his epic guitar solos, Gary Clark Jr.’s guitar almost served as a separate band member for the night. Considering the fact that the ‘Don’t Owe You a Thing’ singer has been killing it on guitar since he was 12, it is no surprise that his solos stole the show. And that isn’t to say that his vocal, the rest of his band and everything else weren’t on their A-game, because they definitely were. If you get a chance to see Gary Clark Jr. perform this spring or summer, you need to jump on the opportunity. No matter what type of music you gravitate towards, you will definitely leave the performance in awe.

Check out our photos from tonight’s performance below and check out the remaining dates from Gary Clark Jr.’s headlining tour here.

Minutes ago, Atlantic Recording artist K. Michelle paid a very special visit to V103 107.5 WGCI‘s Sprite Performance Lounge in downtown Chicago. Hosted by V103‘s Bionce Foxx and WGCI‘s Kendra G, the ‘Love ‘Em All’ singer spoke to fans in Chicago tonight and answered questions that we all wanted  to hear. K. Michelle talked about her forthcoming album, More Issues Than Vogue, her love hate relationship with music, her forthcoming pursuit of Country music, and many other topics. The talented singer/songwriter, guitarist, TV personality and soon to be country music star is definitely one of the most diversely talented artists in R&B today.

Perhaps one of the most impressive and underrated pop tours this spring, Charlie Puth brought his sold-out Nine Track Mind Tour to Chicago’s Park West with singers Phoebe Ryan and Sophie Beem.

Kicking off the night was Parkwood Music artist Sophie Beem. Tonight was Sophie’s first ever show in Chicago and it certainly won’t be her last. The singer/songwriter picked up a number of new fans with her Justin Bieber ‘Love Youself’ cover as she celebrated the new release of her self-titled EP with Chicago. Only 16-years-old, Sophie Beem is new to the game but she isn’t going anywhere. Expect a lot from this exciting young artist, and given she is Beyonce’s artist, what other reasons do you need to add Sophie Beem to your playlist?

Next up was 25-year-old ‘Mine’ singer Phoebe Ryan. And while Phoebe gave an awesome performance for EDM fans last summer at Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival, Ryan did even better tonight when performing for a pop crowd in an intimate theatre setting. Highlights of her set included Ryan’s performance of her new addictive single ‘Chronic’. And it was only right that during Ryan’s stay in Chicago that she perform her awesome cover/mashup of Chicago’s own, R. Kelly’s ‘Ignition Remkx’, mashed with Miguel’s ‘Do You’. It’s no wonder that Phoebe Ryan is one of Taylor Swifts favorite artists right now.

Soon after Ryan stepped off stage, it was time for the man of the night, singer/songwriter Charlie Puth. Made famous from his writing and vocals on the Wiz Khalifa assisted smash hit, ‘See You Again’, Puth is not only one of the most exciting pop artists to watch right now, but he is perhaps the best young songwriter in music today. From his memorable performances tonight, of his singles ‘One Call Away’ and his Meghan Trainor collaboration ‘Marvin Gaye’ to some of his B-sides from his new debut album Nine Track Mind (where his current tour get its name), Charlie Puth put on a show that the Windy City will not soon forget. Live instruments at pop concerts are not dead, and Charlie Puth is living proof of that tonight.

Check out our photos from tonight’s performance below and check out the remaining dates from Puth’s Nine Track Mind Tour here.

Photos: Leon Bridges Brings Soul to The Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee, WI

To say that American gospel and R&B singer Leon Bridges is like nothing else in music today would be a vast understatement. Although the Fort Worth, Texas native is just 26 years old, Bridges has a voice and sound straight out of the 1960s. His debut album, Coming Home, was met with critical acclaim across the board, and if his timeless sound was shared with fans decades ago instead of in 2016, Bridges today would be an R&B legend. So while us millennials don’t get to see the likes of B.B. King and Otis Redding in their prime, we are more than lucky to have Leon Bridges.

Tonight Leon Bridges brought his 2016 spring tour to The Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee, WI. The sold-out crowd was diverse in all sorts of age ranges. Bridges not only has fans old enough that they could have went to school with the talented singer, but as no surprise he has a huge supporting cast from those who grew up with soul music. Young or just young at heart, Bridges’ music was bound to bring joy to all ages in Wisconsin tonight.

Opening for Bridges tonight was R&B artist and Phili-native, Son Little. Son Little performed a number of songs from his self-titled 2015 debut, and while his music is slightly more blues rock infused (when compared to Bridges), it still gave us a window into a better era of music. If you like Gary Clark Jr., you’ll definitely like Son Little. Son Little’s performance certainly set the tone for the rest of the night.

Next up was Leon Bridges himself. Taking time to thank his sold out crowd, dressed to the 9s in a  stunning gray suit, Bridges gave an intimate performance to the Milwaukee crowd tonight. While at moments he would give brief introductions to his songs, all-in-all he made the night about nothing but the music itself. Song for song everyone in attendance sang along, and when fans didn’t know necessarily every word, they still swayed their shoulders side to side and danced to Bridges’ beautiful voice.  Bridges primarily performed his Coming Home album tonight, but even found time to mix in some new music as well. It’s a wonder how he finds time to write new music since it seems like he has been on tour all of the past year. Bridges gave Milwaukee a night it will not soon forget.

Check out our photos from Leon Bridges’ and Son Little’s Milwaukee performance below, and be sure to check out the remaining dates on his current tour here.

Photos: Carly Rae Jepsen Brings Her “Gimmie Love Tour” to Milwaukee, Brings Out Bob Saget to Perform Fuller House Theme

BY TER STAFF

Minutes ago, Canadian singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen stepped off stage at Milwaukee’s Turner Hall Ballroom. Currently on her Gimmie Love Tour, Jepsen put on a memorable performance that we really really really liked (forgive our horrible pun). All jokes aside, Carly Rae’s growth as an artist has been consistent, album after album and year after year. Jepsen is much more than a former standout contestant on Canadian Idol, and certainly more than just the singer behind her 2011 hit ‘Call Me Maybe’. Jepsen’s third studio album, E•MO•TION, was critically acclaimed across the board and wound up on many year end lists (a rarity in the pop world), she contributed a huge cover for the theme song of Fuller House, and her ongoing Gimmie Love Tour has been enjoyed by fans and critics alike. Jepsen definitely showed love for Milwaukee tonight and the feeling was mutual.

Opening for Jepsen tonight was Los Angeles-based alt-folk pop trio, Fairground Saints. The fun group, which consists of Mason Van Valin, Megan McAllister and Elijah Edwards, performed some of their fan favorites like ‘Can’t Control This Weather’, ‘All For You’ and ‘Turn This Car Around’. The guy-guy-girl trio complemented each other especially well and made for a unique combination. Together, Fairground Saints definitely set a great tone for the rest of the night.

Next up for the night was New York based electronic duo Cardiknox. Consisting of singer Lonnie Angle and producer/guitarist Thomas Dutton, Cardiknox just put out their debut album Portrait today, and they put on an unofficial live release party for the Milwaukee crowd before Jepsen hit the stage. And moments before Cardiknox’s final song, Carly Rae came out with a cake bearing Portrait’s artwork to congratulate her openers on their big day. The duo performed a number of cuts off their new LP and you could tell that they were just having fun out there, celebrating their album’s release.

Following Fairground Saints’ and Cardiknox’s performances was the woman of the night, Carly Rae Jepsen. Jepsen kicked off her performance with a number of records from her 2015 LP, including ‘Making the Most of the Night’, ‘Run Away With Me’ and her album’s title track. In total Jepsen performed nearly every track from E•MO•TION, while still making time for cuts from her 2012 album, Kiss, including an emotional performance of her record ‘Curiosity’, a personal highlight from the night and a performance that her Wisconsin fans will not soon forget.

While it seems like just yesterday that Carly Rae Jepsen rose to stardom in the U.S., the 3o-year-old singer is no rookie to making music and touring, and tonight was a clear example of that. Jepsen’s performance may not have had the theatrics that some pop tours have, but rather Jepsen gave an intimate and polished performance that was almost without flaws, which is much better if you ask me. And if the night couldn’t be any better, half way through her set Carly Rae brought out Full House/Fuller House star, comedian Bob Saget, to perform Carly Rae’s cover of the classic sitcom theme. Fans tonight saw a great 20-track setlist, a Danny Tanner appearance, and a performance where song after song Jepsen showcased her exceptional voice and her infectious charm.

Check out our photos from Carly Rae’s Milwaukee performance below, and be sure to check out the remaining dates on her Gimmie Love Tour here.

Photos: Vince Staples Returns to Milwaukee for Pt. II of his Circa ’06 Tour

Following a memorable 2015 performance with Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples returned to The Rave in Milwaukee, WI tonight, this time for a headlining set on Part II of his Circa ’06 Tour. And while his co-headlining tour with Earl was just a year ago, a lot has happened for the the Long Beach rapper since his last trip to Wisconsin. Staples’ released his debut album Summertime ’06, which was received well by critics and fans alike, he launched his acting career with a great and hilarious appearance in the 2015 film “Dope”, he was chosen by XXL for their 2015 Freshman Class, he has released a number of awesome visuals from his latest album, and of course he went on his biggest headlining tour to date.

And although a lot has changed for Staples in the past year, his great stage presence and ability to keep his energy levels high has not changed. In fact, even without Sweatshirt to complement him, his live performance has maybe even stepped up a level or two. Between songs, Staples even made time to salute International Women’s Day, dubbing Hilary Clinton as his prediction for our next president while joking about Bernie Sanders. “Run The Jewels 4, hosted by Bernie Sanders,” joked Staples. Even on a random Tuesday March night in Milwaukee, Vince Staples put on a show that his fans will not soon forget.

Check out our photos from Vince Staples’ performance tonight below, and be sure to check out the remaining dates for Staples’ Circa ’06 Tour Pt. II here.

Photos: THEY. Perform in Milwaukee in Support of Bryson Tiller’s TRAPSOUL Tour

BY TER STAFF

Minutes ago, producer-songwriter duo THEY. stepped off stage for a sold out crowd in Milwaukee, WI. Performing at The Rave, in support of R&B rising superstar Bryson Tiller’s T R A P S O U L tour, THEY. performed some new music as well as their 2015 EP, Nü Religion, which was well received by many and got some major co-signs from Zane Lowe and Ebro from Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning”. The emerging duo, which consists of Dante and Drew, is not only one of the most exciting R&B acts to watch this year, but they are certainly picking up a ton of new fans while on the road with Tiller.

THEY. has a sound that certainly plays well for the T R A P S O U L tour crowd, and whether it’s natural or learned throughout their previous tour stops, Dante and Drew already have found comfort on the big stage. It’s one thing to produce their addictive records, which have gathered millions of streams on SoundCloud, it’s another thing to perform those same tracks live for a sold-out audience, city-after-city. Tiller has already taken advantage of the voids in the left in the R&B world left by Frank Ocean, and there is more than enough room for THEY. to sit at the table as well. Expect THEY. to continue to make a name for themselves throughout the rest of the tour and soon after it concludes.

Check out our photos from THEY.’s opening performance tonight below, and be sure to check out the remaining dates for Tiller and THEY.’s current tour here.

Photos: Hoodie Allen Brings The Happy Camper Tour to Chicago

BY TER STAFF

Just minutes ago People Keep Talking rapper, Hoodie Allen, said his goodbyes to the Windy City after a memorable performance at The Riviera Theatre. Bringing his Happy Camper Tour to Chicago, IL tonight, fans in attendance saw a great opening performance from ‘Keep It Real’ rapper Kyle and an energic headlining set from Hoodie himself. Touring in support of his new LP,similarly titled Happy Camper, which released just last month and features both Kyle and Blackbear (who was not able to perform tonight), Hoodie has gathered quite the fan base due to his music’s broad appeal that transfers over to his live performances.

Up first for the night was Ventura native Kyle. Kyle’s set was full of crowd surfing (and we mean that in the most literal way possible), a lightsaber fight, a Pikachu cameo and wild energetic performances from some of his best songs from his latest album, Smyle, and his 2013 project, Beautiful Loser. There is nothing quite like a Kyle show, and with his DJ and right-hand-man SuperDuperBrick helping hype up the crowd, Kyle always delivers.

It was not long after Kyle’s set before it was time for Hoodie Allen to step on stage. The University of Pennsylvania graduate who worked at Google before quitting his job to pursue music, Hoodie Allen is smarter than your average rapper, and certainly smart enough to know that you may attain fans by making great music but you keep those same fans by putting on great performances. Not a moment went by where the energy levels were low, and the Chicago crowd sang along with Hoodie song-after-song. Highlights of his set included his memorable performances of ‘No Faith In Brooklyn’, ‘All About It’ and ‘Champagne and Pools’. Despite performing for a big theatre, Hoodie puts on an intimate performance that is still full of production value. As the confetti fell from the ceiling near the end of the night, The Rivieria Theatre had seen one of it’s best performances in quite sometime.

Check out our photos from tonight’s show below and see if Hoodie & friends are coming to a city near you on one of their remaining 18 stops on the Happy Camper Tour.

Photos: Logic Brings The Incredible World Tour to Milwaukee

BY TER STAFF

Minutes ago rapper Logic stepped off stage in Wisconsin, as he brought The Incredible World Tour to a crowd of 4,000+ The Rave in Milwaukee, WI. Performing for a sold out Wisconsin crowd, Logic was accompanied by rapper Dizzy Wright and his in-house DJ, the talented DJ Rhetoric, who also joined Logic on his 2015 tour. From start to finish, Funk Volume‘s standout MC Dizzy Wright and the man of the night, Logic, both killed it in their own regards. A collection of Logic’s best songs, killer mixes from Rhetoric, 4,000 people dabbing at once, there was not a dull moment in the evening, and while The Incredible World Tour (similarly titled to Logic’s latest LP, The Incredible True Story) may not be the most incredible live performance you will ever see in your life, tonight’s show proves that Logic is more than just a talent lyricist with amazing beat selection, rather he is also one of the best live performers in rap music today.

Check out our photos (more to come soon) from Logic’s Milwaukee stop on The Incredible World Tour below and be sure to get your tickets to a tour stop near you.
