Today marked the home opener for the Chicago White Sox’ 2016 season at U.S. Cellular Field. Despite a 7-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians and weather unconventional for baseball, the smell of baseball and spring was still in the air this afternoon. The sky saw fireworks, a jet planes, sunshine, snow flurries and home runs while the field saw some of the American League’s best athletes and a ceremonial pitch from Chicago’s Chance The Rapper.

Chance The Rapper is nearing a club ambassador deal with the Chicago White Sox, ESPN reports, and it’s our favorite new partnership in the music and sports worlds. Chance has famously sported his White Sox cap, repping Chicago’s Southside, for years, and which recently led to the Chicago native designing a special Sox cap of his own with New Era.
While Chance’s Sox deal isn’t final and public just yet, Chance is certainly on path to help re-brand the Sox, the way that Drake has helped the Toronto Raptors in the NBA. So what better way for the White Sox to kick off their 2016 season than with Chance The Rapper throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for their home opener against the Cleveland Indians.
Rocking his new Sox hat, today marked the second time that Chance has thrown out the first pitch for the White Sox, but today’s pitch was especially significant. In a partnership that ESPN has called brilliant, as Chance wound up for his pitch this afternoon, the ‘Angels’ rapper may have given way to the start of a new era for the Chicago White Sox. Move over Wrigley, the U.S. Cellular Field is on its way to become the Windy City’s premiere place to catch a ball game.

Chance The Rapper is having one hell of a week. Tomorrow Chance is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the U.S. Cellular Field as the Chicago White Sox host the Cleveland Indians for their home opener, on the verge of a huge club ambassador deal with the Sox. Later that night the ‘Ultralight Beam’ rapper is playing his first ever show at the Windy City’s historic Chicago Theatre.
And if all the above wasn’t enough, today Chance released his visual for his Saba assisted record, ‘Angels’. Directed by Austin Vesely, Chance flies through Chi-town in his awesome Hebru Brantley inspired video.

Bringing his “One On One” tour to Summerfest’s Marcus Amphitheatre, Sir Paul McCartney will travel to the Milwaukee festival on July 8th. For someone as big as Paul McCartney, the Amphitheatre might as well be considered an intimate show for McCartney, so definitely get your tickets fast before they are all sold out.

Black Thought and Styles P both kill it on this 9th Wonder beat, for a track inspired by Manitowoc, Wisconsin’s Steven Avery. Drake surprised many this morning as the 6 God took to Twitter to drop two brand new records. First was his Wizkid and Kyla collaboration ‘One Dance’, but even bigger was Drake’s huge and unexpected collaboration with “The Throne”. Titled ‘Pop Style’, Drake recruits Kanye West and Jay Z for his hot new record. Not only is this an all-star collaboration, but this one is sure to get a ton of play.

Sorry Canada, but hockey is ours now. While ice hockey will remain as Canada’s premiere sport, probably until the end of time, and football will remain king in the U.S., for the first time in 46 years no Canadian teams will make the NHL playoffs.
What makes things even worse for Canada is 46 years ago, there were only two of two Canadian teams who didn’t make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This time around there are seven total NHL teams in Canada who were eliminated from playoff contention, all with several games left in the NHL season.
Not since 1993 has a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup and not since 2011 has a Canadian team even made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, and this year will mark an 22nd straight year that an American team will take home the Cup.
This alone is not why hockey is ours now, after all even though U.S. teams are dominant in the NHL today, they all have plenty of imports from Canada. However this year will also mark the first time that an American born player will win the NHL’s coveted Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the player with the most points in the regular season.
Unless Jamie Benn can put up 12 points in 2 games, or Sidney Crosby can get 18 in 4 games, both while having the number one spot remain pointless in his next 3 contests, Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane will become the first ever American born player to win the Art Ross. Kaner is also the favorite for the Hart Trophy, given to the league’s Most Valuable Player. If he takes home the Hart as well, he will become the first American born-and-raised player to do such.
New York-born Billy Burch won the trophy in the ’20s, however he moved to Toronto at an early age.
This isn’t all. Sales have also been dominated by American teams. While the Montreal Canadians consistently remain as one of the top selling NHL teams, a Canadian team has not reached the number one spot in attendance since the 2007-2008 season.
Don’t worry Canada, just as you have been dominating our music scene in the past few years, we have dominated hockey. Both Justin Bieber and hockey are ours now.
You will always have a big place in the history of hockey though. However, if you don’t start getting your act together, hockey will only continue to evolve into an American sport.
We will gladly take your exports, after all, the Blackhawks couldn’t prosper without Jonathan Toews and Corey Crawford, but hockey is only getting bigger in the States.
In anticipation of his huge forthcoming tour along side A$AP Ferg, rapper Tory Lanez has released his newest music video, this time for his record ‘LA Confidential’. The new track is beginning to climb up the charts right now and features big collaborations from Miguel and producers Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat. If you like what you hear, Lanez’ new album is slated for later this year, on Blanco’s Interscope imprint, Mad Love.
