The vibrant indie pop vibes of LANY filled the air at The Sylvee in Madison, WI on Wednesday night, captivating a crowd of devoted fans and curious newcomers alike. Despite the concurrent spring break for the University of Wisconsin, the venue was buzzing with energy, a testament to the band’s magnetic pull. This tour stop, part of their journey promoting the latest album “A Beautiful Blur,” marked LANY’s long-awaited return to the city, their first in years, and the anticipation was palpable.

The show kicked off with the 2020 nostalgic strains of “you!,” a hit from their “Mama’s Boy” LP, setting the tone for an evening that was as much a celebration of their new work as it was a trip down memory lane of their classics since 2017. The setlist was peppered with tracks from “A Beautiful Blur,” their fifth studio album released last September. Songs like “Congrats,” “Love at First Fight,” and “Alonica” resonated through the venue, each track showcasing the band’s evolution while staying true to the emotive, synth-driven sound that first captured fans’ hearts.

Frontman Paul Jason Klein, known for his charismatic stage presence, did not disappoint. In a move that thrilled attendees, he invited a fan onstage for “Out of My League,” creating a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the lucky individual and a memorable moment for the rest of the audience. Klein’s interaction with the crowd didn’t stop there; he engaged with fans throughout the night, even donning a Packers cheesehead in a nod to the local culture, much to the delight of the Wisconsin crowd.

The evening was an immersive experience that bridged the gap between artist and audience, making every attendee feel like part of the LANY family. The energy of Madison, a city alive with the spirit of its college town roots, coupled with LANY’s heartfelt performance, made for an unforgettable night. As fans filed out of The Sylvee, the echoes of “A Beautiful Blur” lingered in the air, a reminder of the intimate connection between LANY and their audience, and the enduring power of live music to bring people together. Perfectly situated between LA and NY, Madison was the place to be on Wednesday night.
