Toobe Fresco – Ricky! (Freestyle)
To my surprise, this wasn’t a freestyle over the instrumental to OT Genasis’ ‘Ricky’. Cleveland-based rapper Toobe Fresco drops a pretty fire freestyle over Meek Mill’s ‘R.I.C.O.’ instrumental. Mixing great wordplay and flow while simultaneously insulting other rappers that think they’re at the top of their game is not something that many people can do, but Toobe does it very well. He also pauses the track and asks if he really has to finish it – something both cocky and funny. A real head-bobber. Listen below and check out his newly-released ‘T.F.O.E. EP’ on Soundcloud.

Puppet Rebellion – Life Is In Your Hands
A cool (and partly-local) change in submissions comes from Puppet Rebellion, an indie band from Manchester. With their self-described ‘heartfelt lyrics’ and nice, guitar-driven sound, which almost sounds like the Strokes, minus the vocals of Julian Casablancas, their songs are a mix of danceable and thinkable. ‘Life is In Your Hands’ is a prime example of this sound, with some really nice strumming during the bridge. ‘Life is in your hands, I don’t think you understand,’ well, I certainly do now. Check the lead track below and stream the rest of the same-titled EP there too.
Elohim Fre$hy – Libations
Up-and-coming rapper Elohim Fre$hy‘s ‘Libations’ is a great example of how punchlines and flow come together to make a dope sounding track. Featuring an autotuned ‘stunt on my haters’ type hook, which then transitions into verses featuring previously mentioned punchlines like “I want my money up front like a gate”, and “I coulda chased hoes, but I don’t run track”, which will definitely please both trap and lyrical rap heads.
