We understand that rappers aren’t the most progressive individuals when they rap about ‘b*tches’ but recently some older generation rappers are crossing the line.
First Snoop Dogg crossed the line by calling Iggy Azalea a ‘c*nt’, now Eminem (who is no stranger to shock value) has crossed the line as well. In his new Shady Records cypher, Eminem rapped the following:
“Play nice? Bitch I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance.”
Sure, maybe Lana was just the victim here because “Rey” is in her name, but come on Em? Things have changed quite a bit since you released ‘Kim’, but to make fun of the Ray Rice situation and threaten to hit Lana Del Rey is crossing the line. One of the saddest things is that Lana Del Rey is a huge Eminem fan, who has called him a ‘genius’ stating that she “f*cking loves Eminem.” When asked about her influences soon after the release of her debut album, Lana answered:
“(Eminem) changed my life, because I didn’t know music could be intelligent. He wasn’t just rhyming over music just for rhyme sake, he was really taking about the way that things were. That made me think that I could also talk about the way that things actually were instead of making stupid music.”
It is sad that years later, Eminem would do just that, make stupid music and rhyme just for rhymes sake. The other unfortunate thing is that Eminem may be untouchable and scandal free. He is a legend and made a career of controversy, so why would this be any different? Hopefully more people than not see that Eminem went way too far. We are definitely team Lana and Azealia Banks on this one.
