I saw Childish Gambino in Atlanta this past April. After listening to Because The Internet back in December and having it in heavy rotation ever since then, once I found out about the concert I hopped on to the opportunity as quick as possible. The day finally came and I was super ready for it. I hit the highway and played his discography the whole ride through. Knowing the concert was gonna be a huge sea of people and no designated seats I wanted to get there early. I get into town around 12 and ride past the venue only to see people already lined up for it. I wasn’t going to line up until 4 but once I saw that I changed plans and started looking for a parking spot. The difficultly of finding a parking spot near downtown Atlanta wasn’t fun but I eventually found I nice spot in front of some apartments. I walk over to the line and sit down. I soon realize that bringing a jacket and wearing pants wasn’t a good idea. The time passes as I watch some guys play volleyball using a soccer ball and the guard rails for the game. As the line grew and grew I find people to talk to. Music and Gambino being the top subject. Finally the time for the gates to open happen. At this point it’s been 8 hours in line but I was fine with it as long as I go a good spot. The huge amount of people were separated into four lines for the ticket check out. When the time comes for them to scan our tickets I make sure I have all my stuff out my pockets for the anticipated pat down. As I hear the beeps of other lines and watch them run to the stage I look over to my scan guy and see his scanner isn’t working. I watch my hopes of front and center pass with each beep that I don’t get. Finally his scanner gets fixed and we start to get moving. At this point my worries are high but I stay optimistic. The pat down never happened so I quickly put my stuff in my pockets and run to the stage. I look to see the center packed already so I quickly go to the nearest outside part of the mound of people. As time passes the people keep piling in. I meet some local girls who end up being my concert buddy’s for the rest of the night. The opener was a DJ who played some music that got the crowd crazy. Eventually Gambino came out and the crowd went wild only to be followed up with a great set. The concert was awesome and the hometown crowd made it even better.” – Alexander Avgerinos

“I think my favorite set I’ve seen in recent memory would be Childish Gambino at the Deep Web Tour. The opener was Stefan Ponce who did a pretty awesome DJ set, playing unreleased Gambino and Chance joints (“Paradise”, “So Profound”). Visually, it was epic and enthralling, and his setlist was notably fluent and cohesive. It also helps that it was the last stop on the North American tour and the crowd was LIVE. Shit was crazy. I think the one thing about the setlist was that he’d play the hype joints like “Worldstar” and “The Worst Guys” so early and have everyone exhausted, only to play R O Y A L T Y joints and CAMP-era bangers like Bonfire and Freeks and Geeks towards the tail end of the set. I remember just being so tired I couldn’t even properly mouth the words at one point. His set he played at Squamish Valley Music Festival was in 2013 was probably my favorite, and it was also the live debut of one of my favorite Gambino songs ever, ‘Centipede’. Fam uploaded the video to YouTube and I am front and center, visually going nuts. Embarrassing, but awesome nonetheless.” – Vikash Dass
