Now without guitarist Tomo Milicevic, who announced his departure from the band just days ago, Thirty Seconds to Mars took on a “show must go on” mentality and delivered an amazing performance at Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island.

The Jared Leto-led duo may be down to just two members (including drummer Shannon Leto), but the brothers still managed to put on a full and complete performance for their Windy City fans. Complimented by a group of VIP fans side-stage and a number of moving LED walls, it was Jared Leto’s massive amounts of energy that kept the crowd rocking from the band’s opening performance of ‘Monolith’ to their closing performance of ‘Closer to the Edge’. From stage-left, stage-right, to up and down the stage’s 20-foot catwalk, Leto was everywhere.

Although 30STM performed just 13-songs, with the long tracks and Leto’s extended engagement and conversations with his fans, the night’s headlining set lasted for nearly two-hours. “What took you guys so long?”, Leto jokingly asked to those who were seeing the band live for their first time. It was a fair question too, because last night was evidence that the music veterans are pros when it comes to putting on a great show.

Throughout the night, Thirty Seconds to Mars performed a mix of songs from their catalog, with an emphasis on their new album America, which brought the band’s 2018 hit, ‘Walk On Water’, a highlight of the set. While on the surface 13-songs from a two-member band might sound like an underwhelming performance, last night was anything but that. Leto is a man of many talents, but putting on a great a show is at the top of that list.
