Pop superstar, Olivia Rodrigo, will showcase her chart-topping third album during a July 29th taping, returning to the Austin City Limits stage for the first time in five years.

The three-time Grammy winner will record a new performance at ACL Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, July 29th. The taping will mark Rodrigo’s first full-set performance of her third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

The resulting hour-long episode will premiere on PBS this fall as part of the long-running music program’s 52nd season. It will also be available through the PBS App and the Austin City Limits website. An exact broadcast date has not yet been announced.

Rodrigo previously made her Austin City Limits debut in October 2021. Although she had already appeared at festivals and on television, the taping represented the then-18-year-old singer’s first full-length, non-festival concert before a live audience. It also made Austin City Limits history as the show’s first performance featuring an entirely female onstage lineup, with Rodrigo backed by an all-women five-piece band.

That historic debut was devoted entirely to Rodrigo’s first album, SOUR. She performed “drivers license,” “deja vu,” “traitor,” “brutal,” and the closing “good 4 u,” among other selections. An edited version of the set later aired alongside Phoebe Bridgers during the program’s 47th season.

Plenty has changed since that intimate debut. Rodrigo followed SOUR with 2023’s GUTS, embarked on a 100-date world tour and, earlier this year, released you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The new record became her third consecutive album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Its lead single, “drop dead,” also opened atop the Billboard Hot 100, while “the cure” crossed over to the top of multiple rock and alternative charts.

The upcoming taping arrives ahead of Rodrigo’s sold-out Unraveled Tour, which begins September 25th in Hartford, Connecticut. The sprawling arena run will stretch into 2027 and includes multi-night stops in Chicago, Boston, Toronto, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, London, and several other cities.

Fans hoping to attend the Austin City Limits performance can enter a drawing for free passes beginning Friday, July 24th. The passes are limited and nontransferable. Complete giveaway information will be posted through the program’s official tapings page and social media accounts.

Rodrigo’s episode will also benefit from a major change to the Austin City Limits format. For the first time in the show’s more than 50-year history, every artist featured during Season 52 will receive a full-hour broadcast rather than sharing an episode with another performer. The complete season lineup and broadcast schedule will be revealed at a later date.
