While his music paints an accurate picture of the streets of Long Beach, California, Vince Staples is one of the most likable and charismatic names in rap, and (until now) hasn’t been a rapper that you’d associate with controversy. In a video that was re-uploaded to YouTube, a mother details her horrific experience of listening to Vince Staples on her local radio station, 104.5 FM.
According to this uptight vlogger, who doesn’t shy away from saying the N-word throughout the video (something that a radio station even would censor), “I can’t believe (the station) would play (Vince Staples), we need to pray!” Some topics, in Staples’ Summertime ’06 record ‘Norf Norf’, that caused this mother to break out in tears are, skipping school, running from the police, and female reproductive rights. Of course, when you’re a rapper rapping about coming up in Long Beach’s worst neighborhoods, not every lyric is going to be radio friendly, but this lady is taking things way too far. Unfortunately the vlogger won’t be tuning into this radio station anymore, so don’t expect future entertaining videos to come.
Watch a judgmental suburban mother fight back tears as she reads the lyrics from Vince Staples’ ‘Norf Norf’.
