Submission Showcase: October 26th – November 1st 2015

BY JAKE WILLS-BENNETT

‘Submission Showcase’ is a weekly column where we go through songs submitted to us and showcase the best ones. If you’d like to submit music to us, find out how to here.

Kissing Party – “You’re Gonna Wonder”

Wow, wow wow wow wow wow. This band is me! These indie-something folks from Denver have an album named ‘Looking Back It Was Romantic But At The Time I Was Suffocating’, which basically sums up the last month of my life. Anyway, they’re here today with a track named ‘You’re Gonna Wonder’ and it’s very hard to describe but is so beautiful to listen to. With strings, pianos, and acoustic guitars blending with toms to create a very unique backing track for their vocalist, whose name I don’t know (dammit!) to sing things such as “‘Cause I don’t feel home at all, anymore.” It’s wonderful. Check this track, as well as what I believe to be the rest of the album, below on Soundcloud.

Paradise Animals – “Monday Morning”

Self-confessed, Toronto based ‘music makers’, Paradise Animals’ newest single, ‘Monday Morning’ is basically what a Monday Morning sounds like if you woke up in a good mood. Or if you woke up to the news that you won the lottery/got promoted at work/got a new job/you know, that stuff. Featuring a nice bassline half way through, as well as the odd synth and arpeggiator here and there, backed with some wondefully programmed drums, and some even greater vocals, this group is here to stay. Take a listen below, and look out for more from them soon.

Haute – “So High”

Okay, seriously, what is it with us and Canadian submissions? Anyways, Haute is a duo from Montreal. Their ‘Reciprocity EP’ is out now, and ‘So High’ is the trap-influenced title track from it. Featuring booming 808s, a nice hi hat sequenced which flows smoothly through the track, with some nice synths and sweet vocals on top of it, this is definitely worth a listen. Take a listen to ‘So High’ as well as the rest of the EP after the drop, and be sure to peep the rest of the songs on their Soundcloud.
