Jennifer Budd – Don’t Even
Kicking off this week’s Submission Showcase is Don’t Even, the first single from Canadian singer-songwriter Jennifer Budd. The Ontario-based artist mixes styles from folk and soul for this guitar-led single, featuring some strong lyrical content supported by a wonderful voice. The held notes she does are very impressive. Take a listen below and check out the rest of her releases on her Soundcloud.
Sail Ciph – Interlude
This one is interesting. Minnesota rapper Sail Ciph‘s ‘interlude’ is basically spoken word over one of the most bizarro instrumentals I’ve ever heard. But it’s nice and relaxed, giving you the opportunity to nod your head as Ciph raps about girls who don’t call back. The instrumental kinda goes into a synth solo at the end, but it’s done well. Check it out below.

Life on Planets – Cold Front (FSQ Funkadelic Dub with Billy Bass Nelson)
Okay, this one is very hard to describe. Life on Planets’ ‘Cold Front’ gets a touch of the remix treatement by FSQ, featuring Billy Bass Nelson, on, well, bass. The bassline and funk-incorporated elements pay homage to early disco music, while the drums patterns vary at times, which is a nice change. Definitely one worth listening (and dancing) to.
