Last night Jason Derulo, with special guest Jasmine V, performed for the second night of the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee, WI. Greeting the crowd, Jasmine V introduced herself to Milwaukee with a 8-song setlist, full of some of her best records, as well as a couple great covers. Jasmine opened up with her track ‘One Night’, which features Chicago’s Jeremih. “Stay with me tonight, Baby stick around and we can get it right,” Jasmine sings in her single that was released earlier this year. Later in her set, Jasmine V showcased her voice with a stripped acapella cover of Sam Smith’s hit single ‘Stay With Me’. Highlights of her set, which was complemented by back-up dancers and her brother/DJ Jream, included her performances of ‘Dear John’, ‘Work’ and her track with Kendrick Lamar, ‘That’s Me Right There.’ Jasmine V certainly warmed up the crowd for the night’s headlining performance.
Not a half hour past the end of Jasmine V’s performance, Jason Derulo hit the stage with an energetic performance of ‘In My Head’. Opening his set with one of his hits and an entertaining dance routine, Derulo’s opening set the tone of the entire night. Song after song, Derulo reminded his fans of two things. One, the man can dance. Even with a team of talented dancers to back him up, Derulo still stole the show with his moves. And second, Derulo reminded us all of just how many hits he has made since the start of his career in 2009. With performances of his songs ‘Wiggle’, ‘It Girl’, ‘Ridin’ Solo’, Whatcha Say’ and many more, even with a 14-song setlist, Jason did not have to dig into the B-sides.
The highlight of his performance came as the rain started to pour down on the Wisconsin crowd. Going down into the crowd, Derulo told his fans “I’m going to stay in the rain with ya’ll,” before his memorable performance of ‘Want To Want Me’. His set wasn’t just a playlist of radio hits though, as he told stories behind his records we hear on the radio everyday. Speaking on his new single ‘Cheyenne’, Derulo explained “We need our outlets, something that takes us away from our problems. My outlet is writing songs (and) I’ve become a better person because of it. ‘Cheyenne’ is one (song) that really helped me through a tough time. This song all-in-all helped me through a lot of things.” And all-in-all for his Wisconsin crowd, Derulo delivered. Hit records along with talented choreography and intimate stories behind the songs, Derulo’s Milwaukee fans definitely left the fair entertained.
