‘Submission Showcase’ is a weekly column where we go through songs submitted to us and showcase the best ones. If you’d like to submit music to us, find out how to here.
Barin The Great – Rush
Our first submission for this week comes from Baton Rouge-based rapper Barin The Great. His Luke White-produced cut ‘Rush’ samples Stevie Wonder’s ‘All I Do’ and gives it an updated, almost trap-influenced beat which Barin flows over so well, providing two verses which are separated by an almost sung hook. Pretty fire. As always, listen below and look out for more from Barin soon.
Arkells – Can’t Stop Thinking About You (Tobias Jesso Jr. Cover)
Canadian band Arkells‘ cover of Tobias Jesso Jr.’s ‘Can’t Stop Thinking About You’ is a very sweet one, featuring a mix of acoustic guitars, which then adds pianos and some synchronized Ahhs for effect. A lovely atmosphere for a track about, well, being in love. I think I’ll stop describing this before I get emotional. Arkell’s new album ‘High Noon’ can be purchased here, and you can listen to the cover below.
Exit Vehicles – Circular
This one is a bit different. ‘Circular’, by Washington DC’s own Exit Vehicles (bonus points for the cool name), from their new album ‘Stages’, sounds like an almost math-rock style track, until it breaks out into the pre-chorus buildup, which explodes into a very heavy band jam. It’s done well though, so I can’t complain. Reminds me of those Harmonix-made bonus tracks you could play in Rock Band. You can stream this track, as well as the rest of the album below. Seriously, it’s good!
