While certain individuals saw its lyrical ambiguity as a positive, one of the reoccurring criticisms of last year’s Days Before Rodeo was a perceived lack of lyrical depth. Scott still isn’t crooning in hyper-specifics, but his ability to paint mental pictures with words has greatly improved. On ‘3500’, lines such as “Ladies order up the champagne, a whole lot of it; painkillers, ain’t got backpain, know you gotta love it” help portray a colorfully drugged out setting that feels truly immersive.
