Sam Smith, with his album “In the Lonely Hour”, had the best-selling week for any male UK singer in Soundscan’s history.
Smith’s debut album sold 166,000 copies this week, falling second to Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence, and placed him in the Billboard record books. No other UK male artist has sold more than the “Stay With Me” singer in a single week and the albums’ single has also now sold over a million copies. With breaking records and receiving high praise from David Letterman, Smith is certainly having a good month. We look forward to seeing whether Smith can maintain his success, and perhaps one day reach Adele numbers.
